BNWT stuff on ebay - is it real? Where does it come from?

Hi, I am just curious about this and wondered if someone had an answer. I have often been curious about situations when an ebay seller has Brand New With Tags clothing, often more than one item eg. Boden clothing from previous seasons or even this season. Is the clothing genuine? Is it a factory second or reject item?

Do you buy these items or prefer to buy 'good used condition' items from individual sellers?

i have sold children's clothes BNWT, when they have been given to me but they are gopping they don't fit, especially as for some reason MIL always removes the bit of the tag with barcode on, not just the price bit, but then not the rest of the tag Hmm

if they are selling a lot then it may be from a factory outlet or nicked or fake

You have to be really careful especially with designer goods.

I saw a Mulberry handbag on ebay. Described as completely genuine, bnwt, loads of photos. But on one of them there was a label which said 'made in Turkey'

All Mulberry handbags are made in Somerset, so it was a fake, it was being sold for £500.

I would only ever buy designer goods, especially, bags, purses, jewelry, abercrombie etc directly as ebay is flooded with fake goods.

I have sold one or two things like this, in my case it has been something I have bought without trying on then not got chance to take back, or I know I will get my money back plus more on ebay.

I think you'd be fairly safe with Boden stuff, I don't think there's a massive market in faking Johnnie's designs...

I've bought Boden stuff BNWT, and it's been fine I suspect it's either things that people have bought and then not worn but not sent back for a refund in time. Otherwise it'll be stuff they were given I've sold BNWT Boden clothes that my MIL bought for the dc but the kids didn't like, or it didn't fit, for eg.

Some of it will probably also come from the sample/reject sales they do -- I've only ever been to one of those, but people were buying armfuls of the stuff.

IMO, some are real, some not.

I've bought and sold BNWT items on eBay. When I'm selling I try to tell the "back story" regarding where/when I bought the item and why I'm selling it. I try to buy things from sellers who do the same, or who have good ratings.

I also try to only buy brands that I know well, so that I can see from the photos whether something's real or not.

But I have found with shoes that it's often better to buy a used pair and resole them if needed, which doesn't cost much.

I have bought some Boden items on eBay. They seemed to be real. I think there are people who buy up huge amounts of surplus stock and sell them on. I suppose the thing with Boden is that they only have a couple of shops, so the potential for things to be nicked (unless from the warehouse) is limited.

Oh, and never buy goods from China!

uggmum

I am pretty sure Mulberry bags are also made in Turkey and China so not necessarily fakes on Ebay.

I've bought loads of Monsoon clothes from ebay which have been perfect. Usually not this season, but that doesn't bother me. The best bargain I had was a dress for £50 that retailed for £150!

dexter73 · 30/01/2011 10:00

I know a lady who goes to the Boden warehouse sales and buys loads of stuff to sell on Ebay. She makes quite a lot of money doing it. Kids clothes sell the best.

RAlover · 30/01/2011 10:02

I have just bought a BNWT Monsoon dress on ebay, absolutely perfect!!

icapturethecastle · 30/01/2011 10:04

It could always be staff who are able to buy in special sales at reduced prices etc and then sell on ebay.

NinkyNonker · 30/01/2011 11:26

I sell some bnwt stuff. Tends to be stuff I have bought in sales or whathaveyou and changed my mind on out of returns period.

JaneS · 30/01/2011 12:56

Some people are canny and buy lots of something popular so they can sell it for more money (there was a Karen Millen dress a few years ago with a print called 'fantasy garden' that went like this).

I don't know how ebay works now, but just a word of warning: someone sold me a 'BNWT' skirt, which turned out to be a very obvious fake (the name label was in the wrong font; the tags were punched through with plastic loops whereas in that shop they'd always be pinned on with thread and a different shape). I tried to appeal and got nowhere at all with ebay as it was, indeed, an item with tags.

I was Angry.

ednurse · 30/01/2011 13:00

I've sold lots of BNWT on ebay, mostly new look, river island, topshop, h&m.

Normally I buy the stuff online in the sales and then cba to return it if it doesn't fit/look good so chuck it on ebay a few months weeks later.
