post s section tummy

Is it just me, or does anyone else struggle to wear normal pants and trousers after a section?
I have an overhang and tender wobbly tummy but find that it feels better to wear tummy support pants to get jeans on. I'd much rather live without them, but I have such a large roll of Mum tum that I wonder if I will ever be able to wear normal pants and jeans again. I didn't have much of a tummy before I was pregnant, but I have put on a lot of weight and that is one of the issues I fear. Sorry to sound like a moan, I'm unable to do much exercise due to recovering SPD, but I am trying to sort out the food thing......

I was comfortable wearing normal jeans about 2 months after my sections, I stuck to maternity jeans for the first few weeks. It took a while for my stomach overhang to flatten down after my cs's. I'm not sure what causes it TBH, I had a 6 pack before having my first child and have always been to the gym. The only thing that got rid of it was huge, stress induced weight loss that left me very thin. I wouldn't recommend it!

Meglet, thanks for that. I know you are right - stress induced weight loss isn't an easy thing to deal with.

I think I have been stress eating, and I just can't get a handle on it either.... I was a keen runner and never had tummy issues, I just need to give myself a shake, it just feels so uncomfortable is all....

Hi Indigobarbie

(remember you from several threads over summer) Smile

I'm sorry to hear your SPD has continued to do you so much trouble.

You will wear normal trousers and jeans again.

I had similar issues to you (pelvic issues causing pain, c section and large tummy due to diastisis recti - meh).

I did eventually with excellent private physio resolve my pelvic issues, pain and instability of the SI joints. And after that I managed to find enough spare strength to go on a diet and knuckle down to some exercise.

The main issue is getting your SPD dealt with. I saw on a tread the other night that you've had NHS physio but hasn't helped. Can you afford to go private? If you can do and do it now. You'll start to feel better very quickly (3 or 4 appointments). And do find a womans health specialist physio.

I found that I did not have the spare strength to diet or exercise properly until I had dealt with the pain in my pelvis. It takes everything just to get thru each day (and night!) dealing with it and obviously looking after your family.

I did wear normal trousers and jean infact my pre-preg stuff within a couple of months.

I have now really gone and done it and am currently 18 weeks pregnant so waistline looking somewhat erm pregnant.

However just after I got pregnant again my physio assured me that I would be fine and not suffer during the pregnancy if I kept up my exercises. And so far I have and have had no pain despite pregnancy and lugging around DD (18months and heavy).

You're not moaning! You're stuck in a bad place where because of your SPD, you're unable to do the sort of diet and exercise most women can undertake/start once they're 3/4months after birth. And its getting you down.

I felt like I couldn't move on when it was all still painful in the pelvic region. And it did get me down an awful lot.

I know you're after wearing jeans and trousers but how about some tunics and leggings? That helped me look stylish (as stylish as I ever get anyway) and very comfy.

I know you're posting for style advice and I realise that tunics and leggings probably isn't what you want to hear.

In terms of jeans, there are some, dare I say it, maternity ones which are "under bump" and are more than stylish enough for after. I wore my Seraphine skinny ones for ages after and I have some really fab Paige Westbourne under bump jeans which don't look maternity and are super flattering and naturally I'm glad to have them now I am pregnant again.

Look after yourself
x

Obviously, wore pre-preg clothes a couple of months after starting to diet/exercise again (not couple of months after birth duh)

Hellllo Skandi1 my beautiful friend Smile thank you so much for your massive post!

I saw you on the other one re the pelvis and I am so happy to hear that you are much better and pg again! Good news Smile

Isn't it such a pain to have the pelvic thing going on? I am researching private physios now on the pelvic instability website, there is also a scottish PINS source too. I really really want to be able to get back to 'normal' if at all possible and get fit enough to become pregnant again. I have been lazy with my tupler technique, but I am still at it! It does work.

Although I am a far cry from the state I was in during the summer, I am now back at work and still trying to lose weight etc etc I think it feels like bec I am back at work that everything should be 'normal' IYSWIM. It's a gradual process.

I'm really strange but I just don't like the tunics or the leggings, I am soooo fussy. I have to be comfy but I just think they make me look even bigger. I think I may do best with a pair of my maternity jeans (noone need ever
know!) if I pair with a long top?

I am really so so happy to hear from you and that you are doing well, You are my inspiration - take it easy and have a Happy Pregnancy Smile Smile xxx lots love

Thank you Indigobarbie.

If it helps I didn't feel (or look) fully normal until DD was 13 months and by the time she was 14.5 months I was pregnant again Smile

Understand about leggings and tunics. Not really my favourite type of outfit however it did help.

Go for some designer maternity jeans

Below are the westbourne Paige ones I mentioned. Do not look like maternity at all.

www.seraphine.com/maternity-clothes-categories/maternity-jeans/displayProduct.asp?idproduct=579&idcategory=59&title=Dark+Wash+Skinny+Maternity+Jeans,+maternity+jeans

And a long top/jumper anything of your choice really.
