Don't do it. You might get an allergic reaction and rash or spots

Or at least do it well before the wedding and with produts you have used before. Which probably defats the purpose I know..........

iskra · 28/01/2011 14:49

I've never had a facial, but I was told not to have one for the first time immediately before my wedding, because I might break out in spots! Just something to consider, I'm sure someone else knows much more about it than me.

I have been told that microdermabrasion is a good one to go for just before a big event, as it brightens the complexion.

But please don't take my word for it, can you go for a trial run a few weeks ahead of time?

planestrainsautomobiles · 28/01/2011 15:48

I would be quite weary about going for a facial before a big event - I have sensitive skin and have tried a few different brands which are supposed to suit highly sensitive skin and have still come out with very blotchy skin and swollen eyelids. They can also result in pimples / spots.

Don't want to be a sourpuss but would only try if its a few weeks before.

Good Luck for your big day !

MamaVoo · 28/01/2011 15:58

Dermalogica face mapping is good - the price varies a lot from place to place. Definitely have it a few weeks before the big day though.

moragbellingham · 28/01/2011 16:02

Nooooo, don't do it. They do bring out the impurities in your skin so friends have told me and therefore they don't have them before a night out.

I had one and reacted to a very inocuous cleanser and ended up with panicky therapists/staff running around getting soaking cold towels for my face. One hour later, I was still sore and my face suffered for a week or two.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 28/01/2011 16:03

I would have a trial 6 weeks before and a facial the week before, or at least a couple of days.

You skin will need to settle down and IMO a good facial which gets the crap out will leave you red at the least and putting make up onto opened pores is a recipe for disaster and spots! Plus some products/oils will sap your makeup of its staying power.

ThatllDoPig · 28/01/2011 16:03

Don't do it just before! It can release all sorts of toxins and bring you out in a few juicy spots. Have one a month or so before, to give your skin a chance to settle down again. Really lovely and relaxing though, but I can't remember the company where I went. It was at the top of a John Lewis.

GastonTheLadybird · 28/01/2011 16:06

If you're not used to facials have one 6-8 weeks before the wedding, no closer! I would recommend a guinot hydradermie or beaute neuve.

superv1xen · 28/01/2011 16:16

hmmmm.

i get married a week tomorrow.

perhaps i had better not risk it!

elemis visible brilliance facials are fab for glowing skin pre wedding :) so so relaxing too!

MentalFloss · 28/01/2011 16:53

Don't go for one if you haven't had it before, one of my friends had one a week before a wedding and had an AWFUL allergic reaction, she broke out in spots/hives which had to be covered with make up for the wedding.

Havingkittens · 28/01/2011 18:01

I do a lot of bridal make up and I always advise not to have a facial less than 2 weeks before the wedding for the reasons that have already been mentioned.

superv1xen · 28/01/2011 18:19

i am glad i came on to ask now!

would be just my luck to have to walk down the aisle with blotchy, spotty skin!

Congratulations BTW - have a fab day!

electra · 30/01/2011 12:03

I would highly recommend a microdermabrasion - don't listen to those saying it will make you blotchy - this should calm down after a day or two. Your skin will look fresher and whiter and much clearer for the pictures. I've never had break outs after a microderm myself.

I work with Dermalogica and the products are reasonable (their multi-vitamin mask is lovely) but you will not see dramatic results like with a microderm (the ones that use a diamond chip are the best - you can have them at clinics like Transform although it may be worth looking to see if you can find somewhere cheaper and less 'salesy' than them).
