Cows lick / half crown. How much of a PITA is a bob without a fringe for a preschooler?

DDs got a short bob with a fringe, it's alwys suited her and it's practical - no faffing in the morning.

The thing is, she's got a cows lick / half crown on her hairline which gives a natural side parting. Thankfully it's well placed, but it's getting stronger as she gets older and her hair thickens up a bit (now 3.2).

So, despite her rather high hairline, the fringe needs to go. Her hair is thinish and fine and the fringe now hangs in such a way that it makes her forehead look massive and and weird, which it isn't.

So, I'm clipping it to the side and waiting for it to grow out. WTF do you do with a bob with no fringe? Will she just always wear a clip? Can this sort of style ever just be left loose?

I don't want her hair to be a PITA for her, she's far too young to be even thinking about how her hair looks...

My DD had a bob with no fringe.
It looked lovely when combed, but she got so used to having it fall in her face that she liked it - a la captain caveman.
Until I can get it to not grow forwards from the crown to her face she's got to have a fringe for practicality.

Think it always needs a clip if it's fine and doesn't have any weight to make it hang straight.

DD has this style, clip somtimes, when it gets a bit longer, but not always. Guess you'll have to see what ahppens when fringe grows out.

dd has same do (minus fringe) and she has a double crown. normally clip to side, but since she got nits at nursery 3 weeks ago (no gone thankfully) I spray liberally with nit repellant and tie up top bit into single ponytail or 2 bunches. bottom section loose of course but am paranoid about tying her hair up now. side clip now for weekends/when no other kids around!

is v. easy to look after as she is brush/comb/shampoo phobic!

Oh, I'd completely forgotten I'd started this thread!

Thanks for the replies.

Having tried out both, to my surprise I find a bob with no fringe easier for my small dd as she doesn't have to endure the regular fringe-cutting. I do the front section into a top knot to the side so that it lies flat against the hair and hangs down (much more secure than a clip), and then the sides are easy to do as bunches or to leave loose.

DD has a bob and no fringe too.

I've managed to train it into a side parting so I just clip it out the way or tie it with a ribbon which she loves.

tassisssss · 30/01/2011 15:33

dd has a bob and no fringe and it's fab

there's always the option of using hair clips but dd tends not to

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/01/2011 15:35

dd1 had one for a bit, and i think i've persuaded her to go for the chop again after growing it for a year (am fed up of detangling long hair). we used wide elasticated headbands a lot - the kind that look like bandanas, not the sloaney sort.

HettyAmaretti · 30/01/2011 15:38

Takes notes:

ribbons
headbands

Grand! Clips are a bit of a faff aren't they? They seen to slide out too...

I've got a cows lick at my fringe line.
Drives me mad.
Just bought a Babyliss Big Hair - Hoorray. Keeps it under control.

plasticface · 30/01/2011 17:19

What is a PITA?????

HettyAmaretti · 30/01/2011 17:21

PITA - pain in the ass

Babyliss Big Hair is maybe a bit too much for a 3 year old Wink Glad it works for you though.

mini cornrow/french plait across the front and a teeny bobble holds a growing out/no fringe out the way really well.

mololoko · 30/01/2011 18:49

dd has had a clip or plait or "pinapple" since she was about 8 months old - I don't like fringes! I don't think one would suit her as she also has a strong natural side parting.

she's fine with it and if her hair gets in her eyes, she asks for a clip. she's 2.5 now, I guess she's just always been used to it.

We can nearly tuck it behind her ear now, so that might help!
