Are there any decent face creams without SPF in anymore?

It's winter, the sun hardly appears and when it does I would like some sunshine on my face. In the summer I do use an SPF cream but not in the winter months.

In Boots I couldn't find any decent moisturisers without an SPF in them. I know we need to protect our skin but I would like some vitamin D and rosy cheeks on sunny winter days.

I usually use Shangri La from Lush but fancied a change, I ended up with one of the Boots No.7 night creams (which isn't as nice).

Decleor Hydra Floral day cream smells divine, feels great and had given my thirsty skin a good drink

Dr Hauschka? rose day cream good too

Meglet · 28/01/2011 12:53

Check QVC ,it can be cheaper there

MadreInglese · 28/01/2011 12:55

you need SPF all year round really

ChildofIsis · 28/01/2011 12:55

The spf is there to stop the damaging ultra-violet rays penetrating the epidermis.

UV rays are the ones that destroy the interconnecting layers within the skin. Resulting in premature wrinkles and age spots.

Uv damage is irreversable and incredibly ageing.

Use an spf, you'll look younger for longer and won't get as many wrinkles.

Meglet · 28/01/2011 12:57

I know why they are needed. But I look white and awful Sad if I wear SPF's. The sunshine stops me getting spots.

I think skin needs sun too

Do what you want OP Wink

MadreInglese · 28/01/2011 13:01

a low SPF will give you UV protection while also letting your skin get a bit of sun

up to you though, it's your wrinkles face Grin

Emo76 · 28/01/2011 13:04

You could try Body Shop Vitamin E cream

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 13:06

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, amazing!

Meglet · 28/01/2011 13:08

Do they do a face version of the 8 hour cream now.

I love the smell of that stuff, it would make me very shiny though Hmm. Mind you, I often use vaseline in the winter and thats as greasy.

I use the skin protectant. I think they do a whole range now, face, hands, lips etc. It is like Vaseline but absorbs pretty quickly.

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 13:17

And i love the smell to but cant quite put my finger on what it reminds me off?

Gillybobs · 28/01/2011 13:19

iz Earle doesnt put in SPF in her face creams and her moisturiser is lovely and not too spendy at all.

I think her reasoning is that she wont use chemical SPFs and maintains you should wear a separate SPF as those within creams are compromised by all the other ingredients versus true sunblock products. I think...

ANyway her moistureiser is lovely : )

valiumredhead · 28/01/2011 13:24

Yes Liz Earle - iirc she says it is nonsense to but it in day cream as you would have to put in loads for it to actually work.

cabbageroses · 28/01/2011 18:03

If you want wrinkles, sagging and brown spots, do without SPF.

Seriously, why?
If you need colour use a tinted moisturiser, foundation and blusher.

a tan of any kind is the result of sun damage and when youare 40 you will be posting "Should I have a facelift and how can i remove dark liver spots from my face."

Jcvmrajz · 16/08/2018 22:19

Gee, would people ever stop pushing their views on others. I also looking for a SPF free moisturiser. I’ve had a suntan every year since I was a child, I’m now late fifty’s and still get a tan every year, I may have the odd wrinkle around eyes, but pale faced ladies of same age have as many or more than me. I’m told I look at least 10yrs younger. But more importantly there is evidence that there has been a big increase in people, especially children of rickets. That is because they wear so much SPF protection all year round that they never get any vitamin D. So you really do need a rest from SPF. GET MORE VIT D

Brandin · 01/10/2019 11:17

🤣 no you certainly do not need spf all the time plus the chemicals that make up spf are actually not good for you. I am fair skinned and of course wear spf when in the sun for extended periods where I would get burned.

ItWillAllBeOkInTheEnd · 01/10/2019 12:07

I have noticed that women seem to look more lined nowadays than they did when I was younger. Apparently it's all the makeup (chemicals) spf and whatever cocktail is in the moisturisers now that is causing skin to age more. Makes sense.

nothingwittyhere · 01/10/2019 12:12

You don't need SPF in the winter months in Britain. Avene in Boots do lots of good SPF-free moisturisers.

nothingwittyhere · 01/10/2019 12:14

Wtf - why did someone revive this thread?!

fiffaffu · 01/10/2019 23:36
