How old is too old for a mini?

There was a article in this month's Marie Claire featuring the women who worked there, and their working warbdrobes. One journalist looked in her 50s/60s and was wearing a mini skirt/mini dress with bare legs and chunky ankle boots in every picture. Not a good look. My question is, is there an age where mini skirts/dresses just look wrong, or it is just a matter of how you wear them?

many a thread on this
take a look in archives
everyone always says depends on legs

BALD · 27/01/2011 18:22

legs and attitude

VerityBrulee · 27/01/2011 18:25

Good legs and opaque tights are all you need.

hpsaucy · 27/01/2011 18:26

i think it depends more on figure than age

SickOnMyShoulder · 27/01/2011 18:51

This woman had great legs, but it somehow didn't work. I thought she just needed black tights and more flattering shoes, DH and DS thought mini skirts just look awful at that age

Depends on legs, style and how saggy your knees are rather than age. You can go short without looking like mutton imo

I think it also depends how you wear it. A Mini with Stiletoes might look a bit mutton, but could look great with Opaques and long flat riding boots or some shoe boots with a chunky heel. In the summer would look nice with flat strappy toe posts and bare legs.

Older women get it rough on fashion threads.

A fat young woman with a bad haircut, meh.

An older woman with long hair/saggy knees/short skirt is worth a whole thread about her place in the world.

None of what I say is critique of other posts on this thread, just a general observation.

( I am 55+, my knees are not what they were, though the legs are good, my hair is long. No-one has ever said I look bad/inappropriate. And lived.

TrillianAstra · 28/01/2011 09:19

Never, if it looks good.

As an adult woman don't you think your fashion opinion counts for more than that of your DH or DD?

Mini with bare legs and chunky ankle boots sounds awful for any age.

SingleHappyMummy · 28/01/2011 09:27

There's an awful lot of teens and twenty-somethings out there who insist in wearing minis when they are huge/obese, and look awful. If a 50+ woman has a good figure/legs and dresses well and with style then she will always look good. Mini is not an age thing.

KikiJane · 28/01/2011 09:38

Definitely depends on legs. My mum has amazing legs (she's 53) and I'm always trying to get her to show them off a bit more. She'd never go for bare legs, and that's understandable because neither would I, despite having inherited good legs from her. But some older women can definitely pull off a mini.
