Where to buy clothes - big boobs?

LionsAreScary · 26/01/2011 22:55

Do any of you ladies have any tips on where to shop to find tops to suit a larger bust?

I'm not that large - 36D in fact - so it shouldn't really be a problem. But so many tops around at the moment seem to be cut with rounded or higher necklines (rather than a flattering v neck) and they just fall straight down from the bust, making me look like a big lumpy sack.

For example (not that I shop much at Next, but it is fairly mainstream):
these

every one of these would make me look boxy and fat, rather than just curvy.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy smart shirts/tops (suitable for formal office wear) that fit big boobs? I'm a 30GG. I used to get the ones from Next that didn't have buttons so they didn't gape, but they don't sell them any more.

BecauseItoldYouSo · 27/01/2011 13:27

Nope, button up shirts are an impossibility 'off the rack' for those of us with a large chest.

I used to get lots made for me whenever we went to the Far East (Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand) but as I am now a SAHM I don't need them anymore.

Although I would love a crisp white button up shirt......

G5000 · 27/01/2011 13:32

Bravissimo button-up shirts are ok, I have a few and they are totally wearable.

hillyhilly · 27/01/2011 13:32

I buy quite a lot of stuff at White stuff but you do have to be careful they're not too loose around the middle. Phase Eight are good for smart, as someone else has said, it's more a matter of knowing what does and doesnt suit your figure, I've gad some great successes from tk maxx since I worked that out!

ellangirl · 27/01/2011 13:40

TM lewin button up shirts fit me and are flattering and I'm 30GG, though perhaps better with a cami just in case of button gapeage! I just recommended them to someone else. Look here. Can't do any harm to try!

Normantebbit · 27/01/2011 13:43

I have 34E and am only 5ft2ins. Over years I have learned to look for V neck jumpers, stay away from large patterns, high necks, frills, shinty material, spaghetti straps, empire line tunics and White Stuff which does all of the above.

I try to choose boring plain colours, fitted dresses, dark fitted tops with a bolder skirt. I also wear constantly occasionally small fitted black cardigans which pull me together and minimise norkage.

I still look like a weeble unfortunately

BecauseItoldYouSo · 27/01/2011 13:48

I am very similar to you Normatebbit as I am 5'2" and 36FF but wear a size 10 on the bottom half, am very lopsided.

Clothes are always a struggle. Dresses and button up shirts nearly impossible. I am seriously considering a breast reduction.

QuickLookBusy · 27/01/2011 13:51

Norman Tebbit are you me or maybe my long lost twin? Although actually I am 5 ft 2 and a half so am much taller than youGrin

TitsForBrains · 27/01/2011 13:51

Ellangirl What size do you buy please?

QuickLookBusy · 27/01/2011 13:51

We are obviously tripelets!!

Cyb · 27/01/2011 13:51

Ask icod

QuickLookBusy · 27/01/2011 13:52

Sorry tripletsBlush

shouldnotbehere · 27/01/2011 13:54

I like White Stuff and Crew for shirts.

Normantebbit - I love your style.

TapselteerieO · 27/01/2011 14:31

I am sure the gravitational pull of my 30G norks had an effect on my 5ft nothingness! So I am your short sister, but with bigger norks!

I am at the stage where if my cup size rises any further I may consider breast reduction because they are just out of proportion to the rest of me and may be causing slight back problems..?

Normantebbit · 27/01/2011 14:43

I have also found that fitted suit jackets need to be carefully tried on otherwise you can look really bulky. I had some luck with Great Plains (although it is hit and miss. Also like Hobbs knitted dresses although have to be worn with spanx due to three children and a serious peanut butter habit.

LionsAreScary · 27/01/2011 16:50

Ooh, lots of replies and ideas, thanks all.

I do like some of the Bravissimo ones but will beware of quality following muddleduck's comments. Do they do them in the stores? LOL at 'here's my tits, my arse is coming'!

I also like the top posted by TapselteerieO, but that pink would be awful on me. Shame they don't do any other colours.

Ellangirl I know exactly what you mean about empire line tops - they can work if the seam is in the right place. It is impossible to know sometimes until you try them on.

So, I'm going to check out Phase Eight and Reiss (hmm, this could get expensive)... and sainsbury's for the 'staying at home covered in toddler slop' days. Keep the ideas coming!

Well I'm only 5ft 2.5ins and wear a size 32G - according to the staff in Bravissimo.

I like the scoop neck tops from East for work, worn with a fun necklace and covered, of course, by a black cardi.

For slightly more casual I go for a brightly coloured cami under a linen shirt, worn open. M&S had a couple of good shirts last year but you had to snap them up when you saw them.

Always disappointed with shirts now - am sure they used to look better on me, now they just seem to make me look huge!

ellangirl · 27/01/2011 18:03

TitsForBrains I go for 12 normally - if you look at a size guide they're more generous than other shops- 38" bust and 31" waist for a size 12.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/01/2011 18:31

Another lovely, flattering drapey top here at Phase 8.

Definitely super-flattering!

G5000 · 27/01/2011 20:39

yes bravissimo has shops too, check their website. I agree that especially the previous designs tended to be a bit pointy, but some things I've bought from there are really lovely

TitsForBrains · 27/01/2011 20:45

ellangirl Thanks! :)

I'm a 32f with a l

Shattereddreams · 17/02/2013 19:21

Oops
Long body so by the time my norks have been covered by a top, it barely reaches my belly button

I have ok tops from Joules, mainly tunics empire line but stretchy material.
Or boxy square tops (currently on trend) with a long length vest in contrast colour under. Best vests from H&M

Love the club idea. Linking suitable items etc.

SoSusan · 16/08/2013 05:04

New British company on the block for shirts for big boobs is Bounteous. Only do two styles at present but at least they are specifically for ladies with big norks.
