Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good hair salon specialising in Afro hair in Surrey or London?

Thanks

Yup - in East London there's one called...um...hang on...Blush

WilheminaAteHer · 26/01/2011 01:04

Ah, yes - Purely Natural. I think the proprietor is Anastasia someone. They're brill. Oh - are you talking natural hair? Or chemically treated?

WilheminaAteHer · 26/01/2011 01:05

Sorry, got to dash but here's their website.

Monadami · 26/01/2011 01:52

Thanks Wilhemina, I should have specified London areas, East is a bit too far for me. Probably would prefer SE or SW London or Central. My hair is chemically treated.

I used to go here I know the owner and they are v good.

I currently have my hair done here but not an afro salon. I can be in and out in an hour. Unheard of in most afro salons!

Sandra did my hair when she was at Hype.

My hair is also chemically treated.

From The Root in Lewisham are very good.

They also have a salon in Bromley.

I found one in Croydon Town Centre which specialise in Afro & Mixed Race hair called Helena McRae Salon. No idea what they will be like, but as I've tried so many salons and spent a fortune, I've decided I now won't spend over £70 for Relaxer retouch trim and style.

I have a feeling I may have gone to Hype in Balham many years ago.

Vonny, does From The Root have a website, can't find anything?

Errol Douglas in central london is award winning for afro hair, very nice salon.

Used to be a regular at Erroll Douglas, but moved on once my fave stylist had left. I find that the stylist is the most important element tbh. Highly recommend Angie Mitchell - you can find her here. Not cheap, mind you, but very good and highly regarded in the industry.

Chiru that Salon in George Street looks very plush, I notice they don't have a pricelist, so can only imagine the expense.

I'm sure years ago I used to go to a Salon in George Street, it was European, but in the basement they had an Afro hair salon. The two head stylists went on to open their own West End Salon, (Burnette Forbes).

I don't really want to spend too much, as I can't justify the expense for someone to just touch up my roots, give me a blow dry and trim. I never have a restyle, my hair is just long and straight and I usually find they can never blow dry my hair to the same standard I can. (Most don't know how to use a round brush properly) and they never understand my hair, it's fine and the wrong product or too much, I end up leaving with lank stuck to my head hair.

Like most have said, it's the Stylists that make for a good salon and they are few and far between.

chiru I wonder if we've met in rl. I am a regular client of Angie's. She's not cheap, but well worth it imho.
