How can I look stylish but warm?!

I usually bundle up vest top, long sleeved top, cardigan and I'm still cold. I don't want to look like a nan so can anyone point me in the right direction?

Layers are the way to go I think, but how to put them together?

How about a thermal vest underneath it all? Not very fashionable, but hidden under other layers no one else needs to know!

Thermal long sleeved top and thermal leggings as a base layer. I wear baselayers that I think are designed for mountaineering but they keep me toasty. If you get them in black it doesn't look to grannyesque if a bit of them is on show. Higher neck tops (turtle neck/polo neck) over the top hides them completely and keeps your neck warm!
Uniqlo do thermal clothes in a variety of styles at pretty cheap prices if you haven't checked them out before. Thermal is definitely the way to go as they keep you warm whilst still being thin so you don't look like a snowball.
Can you tell I hate the cold?!

wendihouse22 · 24/01/2011 13:37

Yeah, I'd go with the thermals. No one can see them under your stylish outer layers and if the worst happens, you get flattened by a bus and taken to casualty........at least you'll be toasty warm on that trolley in the corridor.

Marks and spencer do gorgeous thermal long sleeve tops, even lovely lacey ones so no need to look frumpy. They are a godsend!

Wear a hat too, and those wrist warmers and nice thick woolly socks. And a scarf.

I hate being cold too!

I wear Uniqlo coloured long sleeve thermals under pretty blouses. They have low scooped necks so that bit doesn't show and if you wear a matching or complimentary colour the sleeves look fine, even under short puff sleeves or cap sleeves. Or under a nice fitted T Shirt. If you are a really cold type you could also wear a thermal camisole underneath the long sleeved thermal.

Thermal long johns under jeans or trousers.

Cashmere is nice and cosy and stylish at the same time.

If you like wearing skirts M&S do knitted tights with merino wool in them which are really warm. They also do ones with Cashmere which I suspect are too. And leggings with brushed fleecy lining.

Havingkittens Leggings with brushed fleecy lining?! In M&S? I have got to get myself some of those!

(overboard with the ! but am so excited!)

CeliaFate · 24/01/2011 14:41

I am loving these ideas, thanks! Leggings with brushed fleecy lining sound like heaven Grin

They are very cosy. I've only seen them in larger branches but if you don't have any luck try the website. They do come up quite long so bear that in mind. I got large, I'm 5'6" and size 12-14, they fit fine but a little long. They have a slight sheen but nothing too full on.

Brora thermal tops look lovely and feel nice on especially the v-necked lacy ones.I hate the synthetic feeling of the uniqlo ones but my mum loves them.M&s cashmere tights are lovely and soft and warm.
