Horrible haircut Toni and Guy - long rant!

higgle · 23/01/2011 11:34

This morning I'm feeling like having a real moan.

Due to a cock up over dates I couldn't get an appointment with my usual hairdresser on a day that suited me. I though I'd go to Toni and Guy in Bristol for a restyle and colour and foolishly thought that "the" "style director" there might give me a new look that was abit more edgy that the haircut I usually have - sad delusion.

Having agreed to pay an eye-watering amount for these services and with an assurance I'd be out for 12 noon I turned up to be told I was due at 9.20 not 9am - I knew then I'd not be out for 12.

My usual hairdresser is top notch at colour, and I asked the colourist at Toni and Guy to use 3 colours and that I wanted my hair darker but rich in tone - I even explained what the 3 colours usually used were. He didn't show me any charts, said it would look lighter and proceeded to use 2 colours only. They didn't even check how it had taken before washing it off, and now my hair is brown, plain boring brown exactly as nature provided me with, but with a tiny glint of cheap red if you shine a light hard on it.

Bad enough, but when "the style director" (who then told me it was just a grade and there were several of them) got started, it went from bad to worse.

I wanted a new haircut and mentioned 3" off and lots of choppy layers, she told me it had only grown an inch and a half and proceeded to administer a pudding basin bob. I kept saying that I didn't want a sleek blow dried look and she carried on doing that, only spending a few moments on the layers after I had pointed out she had not cut them at all.

I couldn't just sit there - I spied a lady about twenty years older than me leaving with a horrible bob like the one I was being given and started to cry - the stylist said it was nothing to do with the cut but to do with the products applied and I couldn't have it sorted out if I had to be gone by 12. She then dragged the poor colourist in to hear what I thought about the colour and lovely chap that he was I could only say the truth - that it looked plain brown with no sign of any highlights at all.

When I got home DH said it didn't look as nice as usual - he was struggling to find something to say actually. TBH I look like some of the old ladies who use the care service I run - flat bob seems to be all the rage with the 80+s these days, especially the very religious ones.

I'm dreading going to work tomorrow - my colleagues know I was off to spend £££s on an edgy new look, they will laugh their heads off. It looks like a DIY job and an application of brown Nice and Easy.

They did give me £20 off because I wasn't happy - so it "only" cost me £126 !!!!! But quite frankly I feel violated - should I spend some time writing a vociferous letter of complain to the manager about it?

Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in Brisol/Bath or Cheltenham ( or area in between) who will actually listen to what I want and deliver me something that looks half decent?

Perhaps I should forget all about it and head off to M&S to buy a nice long flowery Per Una skirt to complete the look.

What did I do to deserve this - I turned up at the appointment wearing a shortish jumper dress, boots etc - all carefully chosen to give them an idea of the sort of look I like.

Sorry for length of this rant - I'm so fired up about it I feel like heading back to the Salon on Monday with a placard saying "don't go in if you don't want to look like this!"

I've never had a thread I started come back to life twice before - just goes to show how awful T&G are, I'm still with my old hairdresser, with lovely shiney well cut locks......

T&G are shite! This zombie thread says it all Grin

Greengardenpixie · 26/08/2014 17:22

i totally know how you feel. I got awful highlights at a regis and i did go back. I think your hair is important to you as it frames your face. I was mortified and couldnt get to the hairdresser quick enough to get it fixed. Hope you get it sorted. Could you tie it back or something?

Rooners · 27/08/2014 07:23

I got a haircut there once about 15 years ago and the arrogance was astounding - the man was hurting me a lot with the scissors by 'chopping' into my fringe really badly and they kept catching the hair and pulling, and it really hurt, and he was an absolute tosser about it.

Apparently the way he looked while he was doing it was more important than how it felt to me. That as the impression I got anyway.

Crap company. I never went back.

I went there the other week to change my hair colour as I live abroad. I start with my own story, firstly when I went there I was told I need a strand test done, which yes fine would be great because at least they would start knowing they can lighten my hair, so I made an appointment to get that done. I suggested that I should also make an appointment incase the results are positive. I was told it wouldn't be necessary and I shouldn't so I turned up two days later to get the strand test. The lady took 3 quite big strands out of my hair, when we went to the desk I suggested again I make an appointment, when I tried to make one they said they were fully booked for like the whole month of January. Even though I had told 3 different members of staff on different days seperately I had a smaller time scale. After that she looked at my hair in her hand, I asked her if she could continue doing the strand test just so I had some idea if it was possible I was told yes no problem and I would get a call that afternoon. That afternoon was more than 5 days ago and I still haven't received a call. My hair was probably just thrown in the bin after I left

LeoandBoosmum · 03/01/2015 14:11

So many here seem to have really bad experiences with T&G.

Sorry I can't read the thread but I hope you can get it corrected maybe by your usual hairdresser at some point...

Btw, having read your OP I'm now wondering if I should have got my hair bobbed last week... Confused I wonder if everyone who has said it looks nice is secretly thinking I look like a religious old lady... Hmm

0pheliaBalls · 11/01/2015 11:02

I went to Toni & Guy in the mid 90s with long, brown/black hair. I asked for choppy layers and a few highlights. I emerged several hours later and £100 poorer with a peroxide crop an inch or two long. The stylist told me he was going for a 'nouveau punk look' as he hacked the first twelve months inches off my newly yellow hair. It took literally years to grow out and I haven't been to a hairdresser since. Never will again, either. God bless the MN haircut.

0pheliaBalls · 11/01/2015 11:03

Twelve months inches?! Stupid phone!

AgentMaximum · 08/01/2016 19:42

Toni and guy is amazing, the people are really helpful and I know cause my mum worked there for over 20 years and her 20 years were fab some people won't get what they want cause of some of them, plz don't judge they are amazing but next time look at the cards to find out the real thing u want cause it's a global salon and worked worldwide. Don't say how horrible they are cause ur just wrong many more of the population liked it and said how much they liked to go back. That's what I want to say

JoyceDivision · 08/01/2016 21:19

AgentMaximum...why have you resurrected a zombie thread?

FWIW, I went to T&G a couple of years ago and they were shite... girl was useless, mpre interested in finfding a stool as her shoes hiurt, ignored what I wanted to ask for a gave me a complate bland wispy hair sort of cut that was nothing like I askedfor.

Crap crap crap

Glad you resurrected it?

Greengardenpixie · 09/01/2016 00:32

I think agenmaximum must work for Toni and Guy. So many people having bad experiences cannot be wrong - sorry!

friedafilmer · 09/01/2016 02:31

I am not that vain, but I'd probably bawl my eyes out if I'm given a horrible haircut and had to pay so much for it.

Obs2016 · 09/01/2016 05:00

I would write and I would want a full refund. No point going back there if you have lost faith.
Where is your old hairdresser?
I would wait until I could go back to my old one, and then continue there until I could find a new one I trusted.

Chottie · 09/01/2016 05:09

Sorry, but I'm another one with a bad T&G experience too.

I did complain and they did listen and give me another appointment free. But, I still had several months when my hair looked awful.

wannabestressfree · 09/01/2016 05:15

Me too. To honest agent you come across as typical hairdresser and your post is nonsical. Of course not every salon is 'amazing' the same as not every salon will be crap. They rest on their reputation which by this thread is diminishing....

ExConstance · 09/01/2016 10:39

Third resurrection ( I am the original OP) Only goes to show they haven't improved since my original problems back in 2011!
