or can you find me photos?

It's old possible 50's, revisited in the 80's I think

Hair at the back swept up and smooth with lots of curls on top

Any ideas?

Not really

The back is completely smooth & the curls on top are tighter

Might even be 40's; I think it's for shoulder length hair or shorter

Yes maybe (the front is very stylised but yes I think so)

Like pincurls?? Been googling for you but not found yet

WhatsWrongWithYou · 22/01/2011 16:02

I think you mean the Lucille Ball 'poodle do'.

KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:02

Much more like mimi that hero suggested I think really

I think the mum in Fresh Prince wore her hair that way too

Mimi is definitely the closest

The poodle haircut as modelled by Cher Lloyd.

KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:11

Oh gosh no that's too OTT

The how to video is good too

Thanks everyone

Are you aspiring to look like Bet Lynch???

Wink
KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:13

All way too big

DD is mixed race & we are looking for a new hairstyle

I think it would do this style;but I haven't shown her any of your photos as they would scare her Wink

Sounds like a lovely style for that type of hair - you could easily tone down the severity of it.
I assume she wouldn't have to sleep in sponge rollers? Smile

KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:20

Probably not

I'm more worried bout the fixing round the back - I think a triple row of over-lapping kirby grips

OP posts:
KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:21

The top we won't need to do anything with; but she wants to see a picture

I'm googgling poodle but it's not really it

This might be useful? bobby pin blog

This post with the picture of Betty Grable looked liked the thing you might be trying to describe. Any help?

KalokiMallow · 22/01/2011 16:55

I think you are looking for a french twist with pin curls on top?

KalokiMallow · 22/01/2011 16:57

Or maybe this?

KalokiMallow · 22/01/2011 17:00

If it is that, then it's more 40's than 50's, so you may be able to find something closer by looking up 40's film stars.

Longtalljosie · 22/01/2011 17:35

Do you mean a chignon?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 22/01/2011 18:43

Can you not just try and achieve that general look and see how it comes out?

I'd think combs would be the way to go, use them to smooth the curls upwards then secure.

KatyMac · 23/01/2011 20:33

Hmm I will have to; but DD wanted to see a picture
