What would you wear with this day dress?

Have just bought this dress and it is really nice on, much nicer in real life than in the pic.

Am wondering what to wear foot-wise and coat-wise - what would you stylish people suggest? This is just for everyday, I would add.

I was thinking of boots/long-sleeved top beneath for now - perhaps leggings/ballet pumps in spring??

But unsure about coat - or maybe a jacket? Not very good at jackets but do fancy and actually NEED a spring one - I think!

A belt so it didn't look like a sack (sorry).

Oh. OK, then - many thanks!

Love it. Bought a similar one they did last year.
I wear: long sleeved simple top underneath, chunky necklace and dark tights.

If you need a jacket or cardigan I would say wear a simple, long lean one about the same length as the dress-a short jacket will not suit the shape of the dress.

belt would ruin the dress. i would do as you've suggested already, top underneath, leggings and knee length boots, maybe a waterfall cardigan over the top for more layering. for a coat over the top, a mac (traditional belted one) would look good.

Thank you, helpful posters Smile Yes, Lucy I had been thinking of a mac, too. Don't have much time or money to shop so had hoped that I would get quite a bit of mileage out of this dress! I did think it would look like a sack when on but it is actually flattering (well - I think so!).

Have irrational hatred of waterfall cardigans. Don't know why.

odetothewestwing · 21/01/2011 14:34

I know! Me too!

And me. But don't think it's totally irrational in my case. If you have a large bosom, I think that sort of style makes you (or at least me) look like a ship in full sail!

On the dress, thought that might have the same effect when I saw it on website, but, if you don't think it's sack-like ode, perhaps it wouldn't.

I'm so heartened to know I am not alone re wtf cardigans.
