Is anyone else wearing (and loving) clogs?

I bought these on holiday in New York last week (to my sister's horror), www.epauletshop.com/servlet/the-792/Stella-Clog-Boot-Mushroom/Detail, and I've been wearing the hell out of them today (to DH's horror).

I love them to bits - they are so comfortable, and make me feel rather funky for a change.

As two of my nearest and dearest hate them (I do understand why - until I fell in love with these, I too thought clogs belonged in Dutch souvenir shops, and I certainly couldn't wear clog slip-ons, even now), I was wondering if there were any other clog-lovers on here....!

I heart clogs too! I got some lovely sheepskin lined boots in a sale last year and they're still going strong, very similar to these.
They're a bit of a love 'em or hate 'em shoe item I reckon. I love 'em!!

Nagoo · 20/01/2011 15:08

eeew. really? it must only be you two. surely.

womma · 20/01/2011 15:39

Yes, we are women of taste. So ner.

diddl · 20/01/2011 17:30

I love clogs, but hate those clog boots.

tethersend · 20/01/2011 18:13

me too, diddle- I'll stick to my red hasbeens.

sharbie · 20/01/2011 18:17

my mum has just bought a pair

vesela · 20/01/2011 20:43

my tan braided Torpatoffeln are winging their way to me now! I had to get something to go with my new flares Grin.

They're from www.lottafromstockholm.co.uk/ (thanks to whoever posted the link in some old thread) who has a clog sale on at the moment - £27.50 for various styles similar to the Hasbeens high (7cm heel). Lotta is also super-helpful.

FrancesFarmer · 20/01/2011 20:45

I bought a pair but had to ebay them. The lack of flexibility in the soles made them very uncomfortable for me.

vesela · 20/01/2011 20:50

That's why I thought I'd try first with a sale pair - it sounds as if you either find them v. comfortable or you don't.

ttalloo · 21/01/2011 21:42

I found the lack of flexibility in the sole odd at first, but now I've got used to it. And learnt to sit a bit further back when sitting on my haunches so as not to topple over. Smile

It is, as I feared, though. Clog-lovers are a minority, subject to ridicule as they clip-clop their way through life...!

I bought similar to these in the sales but haven't dared had the chance to wear them

missmartha · 22/01/2011 13:37

I bought a pair of clogs in Sweden once.

I have no idea why. I hate them.

catinthehat2 · 22/01/2011 13:46

forget the clogs, check out these sandals on one of the links earlier

Earlybird · 22/01/2011 13:49

I have a pair of the Sanita flexible sole classic clogs, and they are without question my footwear of choice if I've got to be on my feet all day and/or do alot of walking.

I know they aren't hugely attractive, but sometimes (usually!) it is comfort before beauty for me.

Earlybird · 22/01/2011 13:54

These (link below) are similar to mine. Also fwiw, I prefer the 'closed clog' (with heel 'lip') so clogs are stable on my feet and don't 'click clack' when I walk.

Oooo are clogs about to have a fashion momment? I love my clogs. I've got a pair of sling back sandalish ones like this www.lovethoseshoes.com/inga-from-sweden-sweetheart-black-patent-sandal/ that I live in in summer. Not sure if they make me look a bit bonkers though ?

ttalloo · 22/01/2011 22:29

Oh dear, I fear that I am still not a true clog-lover, then - I am sorry to say that your clogs, Himalaya and Earlybird make me shudder. I can see why they are monumentally comfortable, but they look so unattractive.

Although a question for Earlybird, do your flexible clogs then have some give in the sole?

lololizzy · 22/01/2011 22:30

well i love them, mine have crochet knit trim and faux fur! My partner calls them mad cat lady shoes but i don't care! i got them years ago by Ash. they are marvelous!!

Earlybird · 22/01/2011 22:39

I have to say that, generally, the stand-or-walk-all-day sorts of shoes usually don't look very pretty.....but as long as they're not completely repulsive, i can trade vanity for comfort. Hence, for the past few years my everyday winter shoe has been the flexible clog, and everyday summer shoes have been Birkenstocks.

I wear prettier, more feminine shoes (with less support and a heel) when I am out for an evening and not intending to walk very long/far.

Regarding the clogs I linked to - yes, there is a bit of flexibility in the sole. Not at all like the solid wood 'normal' clogs.

Earlybird · 22/01/2011 22:41

Also, fwiw - I tend to walk 5 miles a day (sometimes more), so comfort is paramount.

Himalaya · 23/01/2011 08:56

ttalloo I agree you are not yet a true clog lover. I had a look at your boots, they are very nice, but I don't think they are really clogs. It is something about having such a defined heel, rather than a single shape for the whole sole. Also the fact that they don't make you look like a woman-in-sensible-shoes and/or mad-cat-lady.

Himalaya · 23/01/2011 09:02

Still, though being a bit ugly-funky never stopped a fashion moment in footwear (....Uggs, Crocs) maybe it is time for the summer of clogs.

ttalloo · 23/01/2011 14:11

I might buy a pair of clog sandals (stylish ones, should such a thing exist) this summer; my clog boots may not be authentic but they really are astonishingly comfortable for something with an inflexible wooden sole. I can walk and stand in them all without my feet or back aching, which I can't normally do in anything other than a flat shoe.

I love clogs I bought my first pair about 20 yrs ago at Uni, nu buck ones which I still wear.
I have gold sandals and black Sanita totem boots.

I find them comfy but a bit precarious on cobbles.
My husband hates them
