Nice wellies that AREN'T Hunters

I need wellies. I would rather not get Hunters as they are everywhere and a bit of a fashion accessory. But I want wellies I can actually walk a fair distance in comfortably. I don't really like the Joules ones either, they are a bit colourful.

Any suggestions?

le chameau. supremely comfortable especially the neoprene lined ones. won't get much change out of £200 but mine are 10 yrs old and still going strong. may be the most comfortable footwear I own...

Barbour wellies are good and cost about £60.

Toggi are good.

chocoholic · 19/01/2011 16:20

I have Aigle wellies and they are really comfy & warm.

madammecholet · 19/01/2011 17:31

I second Barbour wellies dexter...:)

GeorgeEliot · 19/01/2011 17:44

I love my Muck Boots - very warm and comfy.

talkingnonsense · 19/01/2011 18:20

Are muck boots waterproof?

scampadoodle · 19/01/2011 18:23

everlong would you believe they are the latest trendy footwear? I live not far from Hoxton and all the self-conscious jolie-laide fashionistas are wearing them. And chavs. I kid you not.

maxybrown · 19/01/2011 18:57

ooh I never thought of Hunters as fashion acces! soooooooooo comfortable!

liquiditytrap · 19/01/2011 20:31

Oh they really are fashion accessories now. It's quite annoying, actually, as I have always had them and they are comfy. But I am quite an anti-fashion person, once something becomes really popular I stop liking it (which is probably just as poncy as just following trends)

I like the Barbour ones, but the Chameau ones are too pricy for me!

I'm actually a little bit in love with these. They'd match my aviator jacket perfectly!

OmniumAndGatherum · 19/01/2011 21:21

Another vote for Le Chameau, despite the price (as they will last for ever). My old Hunters are great, but my made-in-China Hunters are rubbish, as are the children's. Am trying to talk DS into Le C, but he has Aspergers and is wedded to his pesky Hunters.

ceres · 19/01/2011 21:29

i agree with chocoholic, i love my aigle wellies.

if you want them for walking then the aigle parcours are brilliant - they are described as a 'walking welly' and based on a walking boot design. around the same price range as hunters and imo much more comfy.

piratecat · 19/01/2011 21:37

whats wrong with my green Dunlops? they are Indie aren't they Wink

WhatsWrongWithYou · 19/01/2011 21:44

I agree with whoever said le chameau - I left mine outside so they disintegrated after a couple of years but they were so comfortable and I could properly walk in them.

Unlike my Hunters, which don't support my ankles and throw my feet forward, plus have no grip.
I'm sure I paid no more than £100 for them, but they were worth that amount.

liquiditytrap · 19/01/2011 21:51

Dunlops chafe my feet. OK for just going a few yards to feed the horse or whatever, but will rub if you walk far in them

Dubarrys Grin

Pricey but soooo comfy - cool in summmer and warm in winter. I can highly recommend!!

Tolalola · 19/01/2011 21:57

I have the neoprene-lined Le Chameau ones They are outrageously comfortable and you can really tramp about all day in wretched conditions and still be comfy. I find them a bit warm in the summer.

Takver · 19/01/2011 21:58

I have cheapy wellies with sheepskin insoles for comfort, but I know a lot of people swear by Muck boots, including a friend who suffers from gout.
