Clothes for larger ladies

Wondering if anyone knows of any unusual brands (ideally for online ordering) for a "fat bottomed girl" who is extraordinarily bored of the overpriced rubbish in Evans, buys trousers on sale in Ann Harvey (and a satin top for £5 reduced from £55 at the weekend, ha ha ha result!).

I always used to be a little bit hippy and have now lost my way a little and gone middle of the road, mediocre. This is not me at all and I am trying to reclaim this enormous out of control lump myself. Been to hairdresser, new specs on the way ...

Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Have a look at Bon'a Parte and see what you think.

I also get a few carefully selected things from Boden (which now go up to 22) and M and S Autograph. Must say I prefer them to Ann Harvey. Monsoon also go up to 22 - though they are a bit 'middle of the road' (as indeed many people would say are Boden and M and S).

Some people also like Asos Curve - haven't got any myself but again see what you think.

I also like some pieces from Marina Rinaldi Sport but they are £££ and not available online.

You might also like a to lok at a fashion blog called Rubenisstas for their ideas.

Or indeed to look, not lok!

PS You're definitely on right lines with a great hair style, and stylish glasses - also recommend a great bra, if you don't already have one. And of course shoes, jewellery, scarves, etc, etc - which don't have a size - can add a funky/stylish edge to most outfits.

I don't know exactly what to suggest but 8 years ago I went to New York and they had an amazing range of sizes with petite. They also had (shock horror and never seen the UK) petite full length evening dresses. I saw a whole floor of petite clothes in one of the stores. Twas heaven.

For example they had the UK equivalent of size 30 but in petite.

Pippop1 am agog that I might be "petite" in New York. L-O-V-I-N-G it!!! Grin

I think the petite refers to the height - you didn't say how tall you are, unless I missed something - or your size. I'm tall, so am always looking for something which fits and looks good on a 5'9'' Size 22.

fairtradefloozy · 19/01/2011 13:24

About 5'7 and shortish in the leg. REgular are a touch long, petite length a tad short.

22 in the rear, 20 at the front.

Yes, Petite does refer to height. e.g. a large lady who is short. I am 4ft llins and three quarters for example.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/01/2011 17:07

Some Next items go up to atleast a size 22. TK Maxx has 'plus size' section which have some more unusual stuff.

madammecholet · 19/01/2011 17:41

La Redoute En Plus:

here

:)

polyhymnia · 19/01/2011 18:59

Yes, have seen a few things in 22 that look good on Next site, though not tried them yet. I know a lot of people - including the blogger who runs the Rubenisstas website - are very keen on La Redoute too.

If you're 20/22, there is at least some choice nowadays, though not as much as I'd like. Neither Boden nor Autograph used to do 22 until fairly recently. I - and I'm sure loads of others - had been nagging M and S and Boden for a few years before it happened.

Nechy · 19/01/2011 20:55

next directory have a lot of styles up to size 28 now

Hatesponge · 19/01/2011 21:12

what about joe browns?(see simply be website)...I like a lot of their stuff but its a bit pricey for me.

I'm a similar size to you, but being frugal tight I tend to buy stuff from all manner of shops, Asda to New Look, Primark to Monsoon, basically anywhere I can find things I like in my size for a price that doesn't make me wince :)

timetosmile · 19/01/2011 21:18

At the risk of being voted least fashionable poster..can I whisper the words of middle age fear..Bon Marche...
Very generous rears(!) and actually a few really nice things and well-cut staples (jeans, work tops) hidden among the velour lounge suits.
I take a size smaller there than elsewhere which is another reason to buy there..

fairtradefloozy · 19/01/2011 21:53

I did have a little flutter in the Monsoon sale ... some fabulous things and real bargains a jumper reduced from £55 to £15!!

I could be tempted to enter the portals of Bon Marche if they provide generously for rears - for mine is indeed generous, and will seek out next, la redoute and job browns.

Thanks, ladies.
