GHD straighteners, what's a cheaper version?

I know they are amazing, all hairdressers seem to use them but I can't afford £100! Can I get decent ones for £30ish?

I bought Carmen straighteners for about £25 and they have been really good. Saw another set of them reduced to £9.75 in Wilkinson's a few months ago, so I bought them as back-up! With GHD you are really just paying for the name; I get perfectly good results with the Carmen ones.

Maybe it's just the skill of the hairdresser which gets such good results, but my Superdrug £15 ones are just crap.

hi there apparently the next best thing to GHD is FHI, think they are about £50. I was lucky enough to have my Ghd's bought for me by my very generous sister, but i would def save up for another pair, i,ve had them 2 years, use them daily and they r still going strong.

I've had my GHDs for over 6 years now, and they really are great. Beofre that I'd gone through loads of cheaper ones - it's really worth shelling out if you possibly can...

Tigi ones are £50 and just as good as GHDs :)

Babyliss 230's are brilliant.

scotsgirl23 · 18/01/2011 19:47

FHI are great.

I did some research and found some that went up to the same temp as GHD's and had the same features. They are by Hairtools? I found a supplier on ebay which is a company up north that are reputable. They cost me about £37 a few years ago and I get the same results using mine as my hairdresser does using her ones on my hair.

You could try sectioning your hair if you don't already and you may see a difference.

I had three pairs of budget straighteners - all useless - until I succumbed and borrowed a friend's ghds to see what all the fuss was about. I've had my own pair for five years now and they are fab. I don't straighten my ( thick, unruly, curly) hair every day, but when I do it it looks lovely, and lasts.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have a look in the sales for some of these.

I think the price of GHDs goes up when you add on all the cheaper ones you've bought in the hope that they'll be as good. Most of us have done it and would have saved money in the long run if we'd just got GHDs in the first place. Grin

chicaguapa thanks for rather elegantly making the point that I was trying (and failing) to get across! Grin
