I have quite fine hair, which I don't actually style very often.
Have started blowdrying once every month if i go out and did use straighteners a little about a year ago.
It is very straight and been in good condition. It used to be greasy in the past
I wash daily
I do dye, i have quite a lot of greys, using Nice and Easy 120.
My hair is so lank and dry and flyaway fluffy.
I try some Aveda leave in conditioner to add a little shine and is just looks dull and heavy.
Help me please, I need some magic treatments to add the shine and condition back to my hair

Am i to be left with flyaway hair?
Admittedly there are more worrying problems in the world Sad

I have long fine hair and Aveda shampure shampoo and conditioner makes it really shiny in a way no other one has. I very very rarely use a deep conditioner because they weigh my hair down too much.

DarrellRivers · 14/01/2011 16:18

shampure
Oh I love the smell of shampure
Good thinking
i had left aveda to join tresemme as much cheaper, but perhaps that is the problems
thanks

Oh I'm interested in your thread, but that's cos I have the same problem as you.

We need someone with super shiney hair to come along and give us some tips!

The onky thing that works temporarily for me is using semi permanent dyes instead of permanents.

I used to use serum but even that doesn't seem to work anymore for me. I'm blaming my age.

Havingkittens · 14/01/2011 16:25

I love the smell of Shampure but sadly Aveda shampoos do nothing for my hair. I have just started using one called Cynthia Sylvia Stout from Lush which makes my hair really shiny, gives it volume and makes it less fluffy and frizzy. You can buy 3 different sizes so you could try the smallest to see if it works for you.

Avoid anything with silicone in it, it's terrible for your hair.

DarrellRivers · 14/01/2011 16:28

yes, i used to find i had shinier hair with the semi permanents, but i suppose less cover
Will try that

And the lush and get aveda shampure samples from my hair dresser.
Off to swimming now, will check nback later

Freezing cold rinse at the end of every wash, I only wash every two/three days too.

I use a cider vinegar rinse when nothing else works, one part vinegar to two parts water, used before a normal wash. It seems to detox my hair.

I have dyed my hair in the past but now I use superdrug shader, you use it like a shampoo, leave it on for 5 mins then rinse it off. There are quite a few different shades, 99p for a small bottle - cheap but it works better for me than dye, it avoids the re-growth strip of hair with dye. I have a few different colours and using different ones makes it more natural IMHO.

Buy a babyliss big hair. See the massive thread below. It's genius and really smooths my fine hair down. Also redistributes the oil i find so hair is much less greasy. Day two hair is much more civilised than normal oil slick.

Products wise i am still searching for holy grail conditioner. I use philip kingsley scalp shampoo as otherwise i get bumps and lumps and horrible greasy dandruff that sticks to mynhead. But not so fond of his conditioners.

maize · 14/01/2011 22:00

I have very very shiny hair. Its my one glam thing :)

Do you have naturally straight hair? Or is it wavy/curly? I have lots of very fine straight hair that can get fluffy sometimes. I have a bob with a fringe.

I alternate Paul Mitchell Sleek and Shiny products (green lid) and Pantene 2 in 1 Blush. I use a teeeeeeny amount of conditioner and only on my roots. I let my hair air dry for as long as I can and then I rough dry and then GHD. I use shine spray as well (from Boots).

People slag off Pantene but it does make my hair shiny.

Asda apple shampoo/conditioner is nice as well.

Long layers helps as well I think.

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2011 22:02

Moroccan Oil... Just a teeny bit after the wash.

ruddynorah · 14/01/2011 22:06

Aussie miracle moist shampoo and conditioner or boots naked moisture shampoo and conditioner.

Wash less often.

Use drop of moroccan oil before drying.

maize · 14/01/2011 22:22

My advice contradicts EVERYONE oops! I do have shiny hair though.

What is Moroccan Oil?

DarrellRivers · 14/01/2011 22:24

Naturally straight
Am going out tomorrow to purchase many things
"Mission shiny hair'

Now what is this 'Morrocan oil' you speak of?

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 14/01/2011 22:26

Am going to try everything [excited]

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2011 22:26

Morroccan OIl Lasts for ages - use like a serum. Miracle stuff

cornslik · 14/01/2011 22:26

Ojon oil is good - it's on QVC

ruddynorah · 14/01/2011 22:34

Moroccan oil is amazing. Supercuts sell it!

daimbardiva · 14/01/2011 23:02

I'd been trying to "detox" my hair using slicone free shampoos and conditioners and no other products and at first it was good, but now it looks a bit flat and crap.

Boo. Sorry, not v helpful, but just wanted to empathise with the non-shiny thing!

DarrellRivers · 20/01/2011 18:39

Right, an update
Have bowed to the pressure and started using straighteners every day
Using Aussie 3 minute Miracle and put in a semi permanent colour boost
Result, lovely shiny glossy hair
Have got my va-va-vom back
[swish]
thanks

Well done!

Only just seen this thread, but was told by a hairdresser that shine has naff all to do with products and is all about the amount of tension you put on hair during a blow dry. So if you blow dry down the hair shaft with a large round brush, pulling as hard as you can, you should get shinier hair.

I've never had the strength to do this properly, so have just got myself a Big Hair. Seems to do the trick! Before that I usually resorted to straighteners though.

Mumwithadragontattoo · 21/01/2011 17:48

I started using Timotei Shimmer and Shine shampoo and conditioner a couple of months ago. My MIL commented at Christmas how shiny my hair looked. I don't do much else to it so I think it must have worked!
