GROUPON are offers really genuine?

Has anyone experienced any problems with products or services purchased from Groupon? I joined about a month ago and have been amazed by some of the offers, especially beauty ones. So far I have purchased a Brazilian Keratin Straightening treatment, but haven't booked my appointment yet.

I just wondered do people have problems booking, some of the ofers have a hundreds of people purchasing. Can suppliers really manage the amount of people who book?

Thanks

My other half got a voucher for cheap glasses from Glasses Direct, and it was fine. 2 pairs of glasses for £29 :)

I bought a spa package before Christmas for both my Mum and I. I only called yesterday to make the appointment but was offered the day I requested for both of us, at the same time. I was worried it would be difficult to get an appointment.

Fingers crossed it will be lovely.

i booked my keratin treatment for next week. It is my first groupon offer, but my friend has used it a lot. I think it is all genuine.

Ooh, just joined today, looking for some bargains!

Havingkittens · 13/01/2011 23:53

I've bought laser hair removal, massage & facial, Pizza & cocktails, cinema tickets and brazilian keratin treatment from Groupon so far. All pretty good deals apart from rubbish pizza and cocktails at Grand Union and the massage and facial were nice for the price I paid but I would have been disappointed if I'd have paid the £135 or thereabouts they had claimed was the regular price.

claireybear82 · 13/01/2011 23:54

yep ive used it a few times and never had a problem :) i got the glasses direct thing too and also got a £125 hair voucher at a posh salon for £35. i used it before xmas and they did a brilliant job and were very nice to me at the salon.

I'm going to get my feet nibbled next week. By fish. For £9.

MrsKitty · 14/01/2011 00:41

I try to check 'official' prices before buying a deal - it's easy to get carried away with offers of a huge 'bargain' otherwise.

That said, I've had quite a few deals off Groupon, no problems so far, and some really good savings.

Monadami · 14/01/2011 00:59

I've also checked the full prices beforehand. I was very tempted to book the Bodytite Lipo the other day, but trying to keep myself under control. I get so excited everytime I visit the site I could end up spending a fortune.

I guess it makes good business for the companies offering cut price services, as they probably get loads more custom through their Groupon offer than they might do ordinarily.

Hmmm.

I know some folk who've had some ace deals from groupon, but the one time I tried to buy a spa day thing, there were no appointments within the 6 weeks (and on the specified days/times) and had to go through the pita of refunding.

I have a bit of a check list.

! I check if it is something I would normally buy
2 If it isn't is it something I would really like to do or expierence.

3 I check out the price for real

4 I decide if I am prepared to wait for the appointment eg if it is a spa deal and it is popular you know it is going to get booked up fast so would I be prepared to wait for a couple of weeks for the treatment.

Only once I have done this will I go ahead and order.

I have had some great stuff with Groupon. Just keep your head.

A tip.
If you are going to another city for a mini break eg say you are going to Edinburgh for the weekend and you live in Manchester have a look at what the other city has to offer. You could get cheap drinks, discounts on tourist attractions for example.

I love it just had my car serviced for £49 instead of the average round here of £140.

Havingkittens · 17/02/2011 13:33

Blimey, I've never seen an offer for car servicing. It's all fish pedicures and colonic irrigation usually!

I had my brazillian keratin treatment last week. It was fine but the salon was pretty low grade. It claimed the pre-discount price was £180 or thereabouts, I would NEVER expect to pay that price in a salon like that!

I also had a massage and facial which claimed to cost about £135 somewhere and it was nice and all but I would've been disappointed if I'd spent that much. It was at a decent place, Duncan Banatyne's health centre but the girl seemed a bit inexperienced which for that kind of price I wouldn't expect.

Just after Christmas I came close to booking a Microdermabrasion course of 6 treatments but decided to check out the salon. It was well dodgy and in some of the reviews I read one person was taking them to court!

So, thinking about it, with my crap Pizza/Cocktails deal on top of all that, often it's a case of "If it seems to good to be true it probably is"

I have learned to be a lot more stringent checking out these deals before jumping on them now.

sh77 · 17/02/2011 13:58

Good advice.

I booked hair cut and highlights at Cobella in Kensington for 65. It says it will be with a a senior stylist but as the deal ran for two days and hundreds signed up, I am not sure whether everyone will get a senior stylist.

For super-popular deals, call as soon as you get the voucher. Took me about 20 mins to get through to the salon.
