I have only been to Primark once, and that was on a Saturday, with a grumpy dd in tow, and was all round an unpleasant experience (did get some snuggly pajamas though!) BUT, dd is in nursery on Friday, and as a little present to myself for getting through the first week back at uni, I am going shopping! Not got much cash though, so Primark it is. I'd like to know what I should look out for, as I find the whole place so bewildering! Have you got anything really good there recently? I'm really after a coat, some fun belts and bags to accessorize with so noone notices just how few clothes I own, and maybe some new tops and skirts. Not after much then! I'd be really interested to hear what nice things they have in right now, and the tat that I should avoid like the plague!
Thanks,
Littlelamb

Hi LL, I don't know anything about Primark but just thought I'd say hello
I'm a TK Maxx lady, have you got a Tacky Max's near you?

sweetheart · 04/10/2005 20:38

ninah - come over to the Chat thread!!!

They do a fabulous military jacket that has been featured in lots of magazines. DT2's godmother has got one and the quality is lovely. She looks fab in it!

Haven't been myself so don't know what's there. She did by DT1 a gorgeous, pink, furry gilet.

Enjoy your shopping spree!

HI. Yep, T K Maxx is equally challenging for me, but a treat when I don't have dd with me! Have found some lovely stuff there, but it takes such a long time! And I always end up buying stuff for dd, which she just doesn't need! Just as an afterthought though, I think I'm going to try and get dd a small chair and table for Xmas, do you think T K maxx is worth a look?

I bought a nice brown velvet bag with a sequin top for a fiver last week. It's not an evening bag but a large daytime one with room for all the gubbins I cart around. They also have 6m rolls of wrapping paper for a pound, bought some of those at lunchtime today! Don't really wear belts, waist seems fat enough already (!) but a colleague from work is always coming back with ones she bought for about 2 pounds. Oh, and they have good bangles, ear-rings etc similar to New Look or even Monsoon and a fraction of the price.

Bozza · 05/10/2005 11:38

Got quite a nice belt for £1 the other day - they had them in brown and green reduced from £3.

MrsSpoon · 05/10/2005 11:41

My friend has just bought a skirt from Primark, think it could be the first one on MaloryTowers' list, it looks fantastic, thought she had got it in Monsoon. It is in this week's Closer mag, think Coleen Whatever Her Name Is, recommends it.

TinyGang · 05/10/2005 11:44

Omg I need a Primark 'fix' now! The skirts sound lovely. Our nearest one is a bit of a hike for me. I went during the summer and had a lovely rummage. Ok, I'm going to whisper this..

peckarollover · 05/10/2005 23:40

I just got some nice black shorts from in there

littlelamb · 07/10/2005 19:17

OOOOO! I am so excited! I just had my first 'proper' Primark experience and I looooooove it! With dd safely in nursery I hopped on the train and headed off. I was a woman on a mission . On first look it was a bit disappointing, but I have learnt the key to Primark- spend two, yes TWO hours trawling through everything, trying things on four at a time (why such a small number?!) and you will find some absolute gems. I needed some good retail therapy, and I haven't had such a good shopping trip for ages. I got a lovely dark green v neck hoodie,(which I actually prefer to one I just bought from Fat Face for £40 ) a black military jacket that I was sure would look dreadful, but is actually really flattering, a grey skirt JUST like one I tried on in River Island, a pair of really soft PJs, a gold bag thats not at all as tacky as I imagined it would be, and two belts. All for £36!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say I could have spent much more. The skirts in there are just beautiful but they were all cut just a bit too big on the hips, and made me look huge. TBH the quality probably isn't all that good, but I can see where the Monsoon comments are coming from, some of the stuff in there is stunning. I am very happy Just a quick observation though, do they stick the size labels on at complete random?! I did a lot of size comparing, and I picked up several 18s that were smaller than the 10s, and likewise the skirt is a 12, which is about right, but all the others I tried on were 16s, and the hoodie is 16/18. There's just no way I'm that size! I found it all very confusing, but that kind of adds to the fun I suppose!

yes sizing in primark is completley random. i brought a skirt, loved it so much went back and brought an identical one, same size couldn't get it past my bum! went back and tried on 6 all supposedly the sames isze before i found one that fits.

But it is worth it though, like you said a couple of hours no kids, try it on before you buy, check seams etc for bad finishing, don't expect it to last more than one season and its great. and to be honest most of it is up to the minute fashion that you are not going to be wearing next season/year anyway. e.g gypsy skirts were £6, which i discovered after spending £65 on one in monsoon.
