Anyone received their Boden spring preview order yet?

Now that the Boden spring website is live and clothes are in stock, I thought I would be receiving my preview order. However phoned up today and the lady I spoke to said it wouldn't be despatched until the end of next week!! Don't know whether that is just my order or if anyone has received their's!?

I just got mine

Overall lovely

I got:

-essential long sleeve scoop neck in pink and White stripe. It's ok but I think I am going to return as not instant love. The fabric is the cord like cotton rather than smooth. It's just not my beloved Hamilton which I wish I had bought in every colour.....

-straight leg cotton trouser in grey. Just lovely. Will prob buy more in other colours. Just smart enough for work with heels but can be slouchy. Just lovely.

-straight jeans in dark denim. I get these in one colour or another every season. Love them.

-leather trim tote in yellow. I think this will be a happy accident. Not sure if I got the wrong end of the stick or picture was not great but I thought this would be a more flat mirror like patent whereas you can see the cord like texture. Also more square and swat than I thought. That said think I like it- just a totally different bag to the one I thought I had ordered......

-still waiting on the wrap dress....

MaggieW · 13/01/2011 15:23

Just got mine

Denim skirt in beige. Very disappointing. Not sure who at Boden thought it was sensible to send a skirt rolled up and wrapped in a ribbon (like a sausage) so it looked like a dishrag when I got it out. I bought the ivory last year and it was fantastic but this one is very light fabric and a much skimpier cut. Feels quite cheap so it'll be going back.

Elasticated espadrilles in navy. Not sure about these. Certainly comfortable as elasticated all over, but not sure if that will sag and also shows too much toe cleavage for my liking. True to size though. Still considering whether to return or not.

nicolamumof3 · 13/01/2011 15:47

hmmm just got my all for the ds's tho. Not really impressed by all of it, doesn't look like much at all for £100 think boden maybe going out of favour here, prices too high for what it is when you can get similar t-shirts elsewhere at a fraction. Always been a fan but not sure anymore Confused

willowstar · 13/01/2011 15:53

I got mine today. I agree the stripy tee definately not as good as the Hamilton tops which I have washed and worn to death over the last few months. the fabric is really thin, same with the Bretton top I ordered.

the scoop neck or cowl neck jumper whatever it is called is lovely though, I bought the green and I really like it.

I also bought the peony bag as the colours are completely me.

I am keeping all 4 items I bought as I got them with a discount code from on this site, so not quite so expensive...but overall I am unimpressed by how flimsy the fabrics seem to be.

kittya · 13/01/2011 16:12

It's one thing tellng a nine year old girl how tall she's got so she must size up but, try saying that when her very averaged sized backside is stuck in an aged 12 pair of skinny trousers. Is the Boden child supposed to be tall and willowy, just like mummy? I'm not surprised most of you are sendin your purchases back, It has steadily gone down hill. I only buy things I really need and only when I've got a fab code. Unlike the other poster, I find it far too old for my 40 years

cabbageroses · 13/01/2011 16:14

I am waiting for my straight leg cotton trews and cropped chinos.
I suspect I am going to be depressed when they come as need to lose 4lbs of belly fat and i am NOT going up to a size 12!

SlowComfortableShrew · 13/01/2011 16:56

that's relly shit if size 12 trousers don't fit a 9 year old - their sizes used to be really generous. i ordered a 7-8 coat for my tall but skinny 6 year old and its almost too small already

Northernlurker · 13/01/2011 18:35

I agree the size of the trouser thing is a worry. I don't want dd1 to get a complex about the size of her hips/bottom. Tis perfectly shaped but not skinny and that does seem to be the way the sizes are.

cabbageroses · 13/01/2011 18:59

I have found less and less i want to buy from them each season.

I could almost guarantee that I'd buy 34 pieces but now I struggle to find one.

The dresses and skirts are vile- the only one dressI like this year is the rather formal shift dress in plain purple.

I just think it has lost its edge. I am pretty old- 50s but look younger- and like to be fashionable, and there is very little I'd buy.

cabbageroses · 13/01/2011 18:59

34- god no! 3-4Smile

maxybrown · 13/01/2011 22:59

got mine today - all for DS though. Not had chance to have it out of packets yet. Seem nice enough in packets. Oh had pair of dungarees out - v nice. I imagine they will be doing a lot of those special days again - to sell things. I LOVE SOME things form there - but do prefer Gap atm for lots of things - but Gap was so DULL over winter - for DS I mean!

SerendipityAlways · 14/01/2011 09:17

Slow, Kittya - I know what you mean about the kids sizing - my tall (but by no means heavy) 10 year old DD is in age 13-14yrs Boden. Shes not too bothered herself by this as she just wants to be comfortable. Buts its a bit ridiculous isn't it?

I never buy their kids trousers because they seem to be made for kids with no hips!

Have not ordered anything myself from the Spring range yet, I am still getting some things from the Winter sale as the weather over here is still freezing!!I like the look of the Breton tops (I lived in one of them last Summer) so may invest in a couple. Also like the peony satchels and bags. Does anyone have the £10 of a £30 spend code yet??

maxybrown · 14/01/2011 09:32

well all ok here. DS needs a real mix of 2/3 and 3/4 - and still fits easily in the 18/24 month shorts, but fed up of same things! Dungarees are MASSIVE though so will need to get next size down - glad though as means the 3/4 will still fit him next year Grin

Never even contemplated anything from Boden for me - maybe when I have lost all my weight Grin

kittya · 14/01/2011 11:58

what makes me laugh is when you read the reviews of the skinny cords/jeans no one ever mentions the size of them. Is it all the ballet the bodens girls do, I wonder? they often say size appropriate. If we are sizing up to aged 12 now, theres no where else to go after this!!! and, at 9, they are more aware of sizing up. Their skinny cardigan was exactly the same, she couldnt get an aged 11 over her shoulders.

Im not even tempted to look for myself. The postbag I bought last year in leopard print is still in my wardrobe not used. If I had the return form I would send it back. Im into Banana Republic at the moment, I find it to b abit more fashionable for my age.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/01/2011 12:12

Received mine but they have not taken 20% off and I ordered in late Oct.
Rang them and very nice lady called Anne sorted it out for me and is sending free retuns labels too.

Of the order,I like the blue print jersey dress and the long fine knit cardigan.
Ordered sleeveless cardi in grey but may return that.

MaggieW · 14/01/2011 12:29

Can anyone tell me what's the deal when sending preview stuff back. I'm sending the skirt and shoes I ordered back and, now that I have the catalogue, have seen some other stuff I'd like. So will they do two items at 20% and then the rest at full price?

nicolamumof3 · 14/01/2011 12:57

you can order anything else at the 20pc if you put it on the returns form Smile

polyhymnia · 14/01/2011 12:59

Georgina - which blue jersey dress do you mean?

Rassy · 14/01/2011 17:41

My order has arrived! Keeping the spotty jersey top and metropolitan tee. Sending back the textured jersey tee (thin and cheap material which shows my lumps and bumps Sad) and leggings (already have several pairs of black ones...) Going to exchange for the peony shopper, straightleg cotton chinos and the linen mix tunic. Has anyone got one of their Spring tunics yet?

OP posts:
cabbageroses · 14/01/2011 17:46

Yes- the straight cotton trousers which look nothing special- going back as the pockets seem to make my hips look big. They are comfy and the size 10 is generous.

the cropped chinos are weird- they came rolled up with a ribbon round them. they are barely cropped- they are turned up and when I unturn them they come down to my ankles.

Rassy · 14/01/2011 17:54

Just found out that you can order more items than you are exchanging and still get 20% off Grin

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 14/01/2011 18:38

Rasssy - on tunics, have just sent back:

  • the relaxed one, which wasn't on me, because it didn't fit well on my bust, though navy version otherwise OK. Not long enough in the body I think (I'm 5'9'')
  • the funky - too funky and OTT - not sure why I ordered that! Boden in a bad way
  • the stripy one, because just too ordinary. I do like the whole breton tunic thing but already have several, including some from M and S Autograph, which are fine, and this just wasn't anything special.

Provisionally keeping Terazzo in brown. A good fit and nice soft material, but quite a lot of white in it (had hoped the white would be cream), so very definitely a summer time only one, whereas the one I bought last year, with a print on a dark beige background, could be worn in spring and autumn too. Also ?? too flowery. Am pondering.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/01/2011 20:01

Sorry Poly,this one
www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Knee-Length-Dresses/WH264/Womens-Everyday-Jersey-Dress.html?NavGroupID=4
hav't tried on yet though.

mamatomany · 14/01/2011 20:10

I am keeping my straight leg chino's, sending back the pleat fronted trousers, they made me look more pregnant than when I was pregnant.
I too love the navy spotted top and might get a different colour too, but am changing it for a size smaller.
I also bought 2 of the brenton tops, which are thin material but I think the same applies to Next and M&S too these days. The sleeves are short but that maybe just my dangly arms.
The gladiator sandals are not worth £60 IMO so they are going back.
I liked the DD's bikini's and towelling dresses, they do what they are meant to do I guess. My very skinny 6 year old fits nicely into the age 7 jeans and cropped jeans but a child with any meat on their bones wouldn't at all, not sure if who they are using for measurements these days.

polyhymnia · 14/01/2011 20:47

Georgina, thanks. That'sthe one I'm thinking of buying, in the blue leopard.
