I'm not buying any clothes this year...

We are building a big extension to our house and are really up against it cash-wise...so I've decided to not buy myself anything new this year! I'd been thinking about it anyway , and the build is now the incentive I needed.

Have any of you ever done this? Is it possible? I'm hoping it will lead me to discover all those hidden gems buried deep in my wardrobe/get more creative with what I have. I'm also hoping that if I simply don't window-shop (either online or in RL) the temptation to splurge just won't be there...

Or am I just kidding myself - will I be sobbing at the gates of Zara within months?!

Oh dear, I failed spectacularily on my one item per month Blush still I have some nice clothes out of it.

Quodlibet, that's fantastic. Totally agree about new pieces losing their appeal once they're washed. My friend and I once confessed to each other that we'd rather buy new linen trousers than ever wash and iron a pair - they just weren't ever the same again Blush

Now I'm also doing the one in one out policy with clothes (ebay is my friend!), and am also having a massive cosmetics and toiletries clearout. Nothing is being bought until the last item is only a quarter full - a quick inventory showed I had about 20 lip glosses, 10 shower gels, 6 face washes etc. I love having a decluttered bathroom, it's great to open the cupboard without it all falling out at my feet.

Good to know I'm not alone - I'm hoping that at the end of the year, I'll actually have changed the way I think about clothes, and won't be tempted to start splurging again (doubt I'll be able to afford to anyway, with new baby coming now!)

When I was digging out my maternity stuff, and packing away things I've not a hope of squeezing into for a while, I actually felt quite ashamed of the sheer amount of clothes I have that I just don't use Blush.

Oh well, hopefully now I've had that realisation it'll help me be more restrained in future!

I think I could easily do this if my weight stayed constant - the main reason I buy clothes is because I've got too fat or too thin to wear the ones I have.

One way I'm doing it is by not buying a new item unless I've tried it on and absolutely love it. Like isn't good enough, it has to be love. It's amazing how well that works, especially with curbing impulse buys.

Ephiny, I have the weight variation too, but have got tough with myself, I just can't afford to change sizes given the value of what's already in my wardrobe. I also don't diet below a certain weight or everything hangs off me. Wish I could stay a bit more constant though.
