not like mutton!

It's my DD's 18th birthday party in a few weeks and I'm struggling with what to wear! Am under strict instructions not to look too frumpy or too mutton but am stumped at what to do! The party is in a local hotel, I am a 5,6 tall 40 something brunette. Any suggestions???

Do you normally look frumpy? What would you instinctively wear? Anyway who's paying for this party?

Try Phase Eight - see other thread on here or Hobbs or whistles (sales have some great bargains if you shop soon). I'm sure you'll look fab! To avoid mutton, show off legs, arms or cleavage, ie not all at once. I'd go with a simple outfit, probably a dress, avoiding lots of detail or little floral prints (very frumpy). If you avoid the shops your DD and friends go to, you won't look like mutton
