Clinique 3 step cleaning method - does it work for anyone?

A colleague of mine came into work a while ago looking radiant, she said she had been using the clinique cleane, exfoliate, moisturise stuff and it had worked a treat.

So I went and had a chat with the clinique ladies, could not quite remember what she had and they said it must have been this as this is the product system that gives the most dramatic difference to skin.

Discussed that I am either number 2 or 3, they had no number 2, so i bought number 3 (the trial pack to see if I like it), and she gave me a number 2 moisturiser to use if I found the gel too drying.

I have used it for almost 2 weeks, but I don't always use it twice a day. Do i have to use it twice a day, every day to see the effect, if I only do one day sometimes will that really make a difference? I find it a little drying, and also a few spots have come up, is that normal? Does it actually work at all or have I been conned?

ooh I also love Dermalogica and have just been bought their DAily Microfoliant face wash for Christmas from a friend. It really is very good and I had forgotten how much I like it.

I was bought an Age Smart starter kit a year or so ago and I love it all.

hmmm think from now on I will be a Dermalogica girl. I had a dermalogica facial and my skin felt and looked really good afterwards, so good that people commented on it!

Bugger, had forgotten about that! Hmm

I used to work for them a long time ago - we used to clean our white uniforms with the clarifying lotion (no 4)!! I would not use the 3 step personally but do swear by the dd moisteriser (sp!!)

If you did use the CL then maybe 1 or 2 not as strong as 3 or 4

If your skin is bought up in a rash or a bad reaction you should be able to get money back.. I did from selfridges when i bought a load of Chanel and it reacted badly with my skin!

I second Dermalogica. Clinique is very abrasive. Although my favourite moisturiser is a Chanel one, its great for dry skin but expensive!

I like Clinique make up remover though. I dont rate their makeup but, I agree with the other poster, their face powder is very good and lasts for ages.

I used to work on a cosmetic counter while at uni. None of the girls would have put the clarifying lotion anywhere near our skin and it was a standing joke that we used to clean marks off our counters/uniforms with it- it was stonger than the cleaning sprays we had, yuck!

The DD moisturiser is pretty crap too, general consensus was that you would be better off with a tub for a couple of quid from the chemist. Clinique is just a bit cheap and nasty, the poor cousin of estee lauder...

I've just started using Liz Earle cleanse and polish (bought as a christmas gift Smile)
have only used it for a week and my skin feels lovely, I was also given a sample of the toner spray and moisturiser. I'm liking it at the moment and no outbreaks - i too have oily skin prone to spots.

ok so i have got an exchange, and now have no.2. I explained to the woman that I had used it for two weeks, bad skin etc etc, and she said 'that should be ok, we can change it, as long as it is unopened' [helllooooooo] so i re-explained, and she replaced it no problems. Also gave me a £5 voucher off No.7 even though I had not actually spent any money and I really like their body wash so bought that with it Grin.

I will use this as I have it, and once finished, see how it goes, but really happy to try other things as people might recommend. I will look at the Dermalogica stuff - if I were to spend the same money as on Clinique (say £45 for 3 step) what would you recommend in their range? I don't wear make-up enough to bother about a specific make-up remover, happy enough to blag trial/samples of whatever I can get! But I really need exfoliator and moisturiser. I had been using Avene moisturiser which I quite liked, also heard good things about Viche (sp) stuff too, anyone else used these?

Anyway, i shall give the No2 a go and post back, but definitely today which is the end of the two weeks I gave, the No3 has been really abrasive on my face, and I am Shock Grin Shock at using the no4 to clean white coats!

If you are trying Dermalogica for the first time, just buy the travel pack I would get the one for normal skin. It should last you a good two weeks and then you will know. I love it. If you have really dry skin and have the money, the Chanel Hydramax Active is gorgeous but sadly, I'm skint after Christmas so Im using my Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance. Good luck!

alas do not have the money Sad Grin only getting married once in this lifetime Wink

Awful stuff, Clinique.
Left me looking like I'd washed my face with a brillo pad.

Never again.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 04/01/2011 12:26

well i used the no2 yesterday and less harsh, but my face looked blotchy afterwards. Not so much now, but it certainly not feel 'wonderful' although granted, only one day so far. I have the exchange receipt, i might just go and ask them to give me money back/voucher as i feel it is not going to give me any kind of glow...i shall give it a few more days and see if the blotchiness goes away.

Clinique worked well for me in my twenties but now I'm older my skin had changed and is a lot, drier so I use dermalogica instead. People frequently tell me I have great skin. I very rarely get a spot but if I do a dab of number two clarifying works a treat for drying it up pdq. Only thing is dermalogica is so bloody dear whereas my friends in the US used to get me the Clinique really cheap!
