my dad gave me £200 for xmas. he made me promise not to spend it on household stuff like i always do. so i have to have something to actually show for it. i finally removed my engagement ring from EXP last night and i decided i will replace it with something of my own that i bought myself. but i have no clue about jewellery. where should i go for good rings that are within this budget?

Am I the only one who thinks that a lot of that Tiffany stuff looks cheap & clunky?

Not sure what you like but
Dower and Hall?
Linda McDonald?
Hot Diamonds?

all have websites.

I personally wouldn't buy anything from HSamuels etc - the actual jewellery is worth nothing in relation to the price you pay.

Antique jewellery is curently very cheap if bought at auction and many auction houses allow you to bid by phone/online.

Alternatively swarovski do some nice costume jewellery.

yes i thought that about the tiffany jewellery.

the linda mcdonald stuff looks very teenagery.

i think I'll try the antique markets, sounds like I'd be getting alot more for my money.

"yes i thought that about the tiffany jewellery."

Glad it´s not just meGrin

I do prefer gold so thought it might have been that.

I recently acquired a lovely ring in UK from a small independant jewellers.

They´ll often do a bit of a deal as well!

would you go for silver? i quite like this designer (poppy dandiya) who does some cheaper rings in silver here

i would buy something like this if i had £200 - i really like the hammered look but obv this may not be to your taste! :)

I have just bought 2 silver and gold rings from Jeremy Heber - he is based in Bristol I think. If you google him he has a website - I can't work out how to do a link. The quality is fantastic and service excellent, he even changed a ring after a week as I realised it wasn't comfy and the wrong size. his jewellery is much better than anything I have seen in a very long time. I had one ring as a birthday present and the other to replace a lost wedding ring.

Wasn't it the owner of Ratners who said the derogatory remarks about his own company? Something about a 99p prawn sandwich?

Also, H Samuel and Ernest Jones are the same company - same as Kay in the US.
