skin tag removal

Has anyone had this done?

I have two very small ones on the top of my arm and they are starting to bother me (only in so far as they are unsightly - they don't cause discomfort etc)

I have seen various places (including my local beauty salon) that advertise they remove them. I'm assuming it is pretty straight forward but would a beauty salon be OK or do I need somewhere a bit more "medical"?

My GP did mine. He jsut put a local anesthetic (sp) in the area where they were (my neck) and sliced them off, then one of them needed a stitch but apart from that they were fine no trace or anything

DH had one removed at GP's surgery a few months back. They recommended it to be done there so they could test it. (If you're in UK it'll be free on NHS Wink )

I pulled one off my neck the other day with a pair of tweezers. I wouldn't recommend that particular method!

Stuck nail clippers in the steriliser and snipped it off.. wouldn't recommend that either.. didn't hurt (well like having your ears peirced)

Tie some cotton thread tightly round it. This will cut off the blood supply and it will drop off after a few days. I've done this myself and although a low tech solution, it works.

I would second the cotton method, it worked and it didn't hurt or cost anything.

Lots of GPs won't do it these days if purely for cosmetic reasons. If they are just skin tags then they aren't tested. Freezing them off is a pretty straightforward procedure - I has a couple on my neck removed a couple of years ago by my practice nurse. I'd think it was fine to get them done in a salon.

I can lend you 4mo DD - I had a small skin tag on my neck but after a week of her twiddling it every time I was carrying her it died and fell off!

melezka · 29/12/2010 11:06

My doctor tied the string around mine.

Our GP has a skin tag removal day but only when enough people have requested it and put their name on the list - apparently last time it took 18 months!

So DP went to the local beauty salon and had 3 removed from his neck. Said it was fine and took no time at all although it stung a bit - he seemed more bothered about one of his mates seeing him going in/out

I had one under my arm for ages, it didn't bother me until one day I somehow managed to catch it on my bra and i half ripped it off. Being very dramatic I padded it out with lot's of guaze and bandages and took myself off to the doctors, hoping he would do some thing about it but he wouldn't touch it, even though I explained that I was going on holiday in a week and would be in and out of swimming pools etc.

Eventually I let DP tie some cotton around it very tightly and in a few days it had fallen off. I didn't hurt at all, and I cant even tell where it was now, no scaring or any thing.

Oooh I am too squemish to try the cotton trick...makes me wince just thinking about it.

Plus it conjours up memories of that thread about the piles and the cotton
