Necklaces - where do you store yours?

ihearthuckabees · 23/12/2010 10:10

I don't know how to store my necklaces. If i put them in my jewellery box they get all tangled up, but I don't like having a hook or necklace tree thing with stuff hanging off it. I want them hidden, but easy to access and to pick out.

They are mainly nice-ish silver and a few bead-type ones, but nothing expensive or posh or valuable.

Help!

I keep my non-bead necklaces on a stand thing & my long beads etc on some mirrored hook things that DH bought me in the hope I'd keep everything tidy!

Before that I found a coat hanger in my wardrobe was useful for the long, chunky stuff.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 23/12/2010 10:29

Mine are in a box, a basket and a glass. It's the earrings I keep losing.

PlumSykes · 23/12/2010 11:15

I have hooks, a bit like these on inside of wardrobe door. Still keep all necklaces on bedside table in a heap though.

ihearthuckabees · 23/12/2010 12:56

Thanks - hooks on back of wardrobe door could work. Cristina, don't they get tangled?

Cork board on the inside of fitted wardrobes, with teeny hooks/push pins attached to it, with a necklace on each - works brilliantly!

ihearthuckabees · 23/12/2010 15:52

geordie - that's genius, but what happens when you drop the pins on the bedroom floor (ouch)!

i use the brightly coloured ones with the big plastic ends so they are quite easy to see. :-)

You can buy wee hooks from homebase type places but to be honest the pins work just as well.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 23/12/2010 16:48

Oh, they get tangled, but it's mostly my daughters who break them. I can't blame the disappearing earrings on them, though.

purplepeony · 23/12/2010 16:54

I have a manequin (sp?) stand thing that DD bought me last Xmas.

I also have a large box- coloured cardboard storage box on my chest of drawers- that I keep the posher stuff in- a couple of necklaces in their own boxes, and earrings.

Cyb · 23/12/2010 17:19

I ahve a full size dressmakers dummy that I hang chunky necklace on

And an ornate T shaped metal stand for smaller ones

ginfizz · 23/12/2010 17:43

I use little sheer taffeta drawstring bags for my beads/chunky jewellery (leftover from the bags bought in bulk from ebay and used as favours at a wedding. I keep necklace and earring sets together, if they match, one set per bag. They are sheer enough to be able to see what is in them, but can be slung into a basket on the dressing table and look reasonable tidy. Silver/gold etc I keep in a jewellery box.

westlake · 23/12/2010 17:47

I hand all of mine from a coat hanger which i hook over the top of the wardrobe door, actually looks really cute!
Wardrobe is a modern white high gloss one though, not sure how it would look on wood

westlake · 23/12/2010 17:47

*hang!

ihearthuckabees · 23/12/2010 18:17

I think I like the corkboard idea best, although the sheer bags would work - I am a bit lazy/impatient though, so may not be able to keep that one going!

I've never managed to pull off the "casual, things on display, but artful and stylish interiors look", which is why i don't want a stand or coathanger over the door type thing. When others do it, to looks cool, when I do it, it looks messy.

Thanks for the ideas Smile

I have one of those plastic hands- like this

GeorgeFormbyGrill · 23/12/2010 20:51

I have a coat hanger that's for ties sort of thing. this

TheNextMrsClaus · 23/12/2010 23:25

I have a little carousel/rack thing I bought from ebay, it has loads of hooks and keeps everything untangled, but I agree it's a pain sitting on my dressing table.

I'm quite tempted by the taffeta bags - my friend makes jewellery and uses them for sales so she could probably get some cheaply for me.

Actually it's mainly down to her that I have so many blooming necklaces in the first place. Grin

ginfizz · 24/12/2010 02:01

You can get the bags very cheaply on ebay in practically any colour and size you can think of! Really really cheap. :)

hopingforfour · 24/12/2010 22:07

I use one of those mug hanging racks from the 70s that stretch out in a diamond pattern. Its painted apple green and looks really cute.

size6feet · 26/12/2010 11:23

I use curtain wires stretched inside my wardrobe doors held up with those tiny hooks.
I put a length of soft wrapping stuff behind to cushion all the jewellery so it stops the jangling.

Can see everything at a glance. I push my ear rings through the backing.

RustyBear · 26/12/2010 12:10

I have a transparent jewellery box from muji with drawers and adjustable sections where I keep my pendant -type necklaces with separate chains, but I have inserts like this for my nicer necklaces that I don't want to get tangled.

fluffles · 26/12/2010 12:20

i've got a mug tree on the mantlepiece. it's a bit messy looking but saves impossible tangles. maybe keep a mugtree inside the wardrobe on a shelf???

YunoYurbubson · 26/12/2010 17:22

I hang mine off a towel rail in my bathroom.
