Right, I have bought this dress and I loved it it in the shop, tried it on at home and DH gives me "It's nice", when pushed (I know I am an idiot)he says "It's a bit frumpy"

Is it frumpy or sexy?

So I was going to wear it with soft wool ribbed black tights, black suede mary janes and a undone up do, dark eyes and a slash of red lippy. I am a size8/10. Will I look like a frump?

I love it too! It's short but not too short, a couple of the Topshop girls were wearing them on Saturday and looked lovely

Stase · 22/12/2010 20:24

I think slim build and easy on the boobs is spot on for this shape dress, but definitely 'slut shoes' as hatcam says. How long is it? Looks like a high waist, so mid-thigh?

Agree men need either the leg or boob card played very obviously to find something sexy, so if you just out in on in the kitchen in your stockinged feet, it wouldn't have the same effect as the full shebang as you have described.

Go for it I reckon!

thatsnotmymonkey · 22/12/2010 20:24

maryjane-- that is music to my ears!

Will try on again tomorrow with belt options.

put it on, I meant Smile

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 20:25

I don't think it's frumpy and worn as you describe and on your figure, I think it will look good. Having said that, I don't like it - but that is probably because I am 40 with norks and I hate animal print and would look like a deranged sack of potatoes in it.

fotheringhay · 22/12/2010 20:25

DH initially said frumpy, then changed his mind when he saw the length and the back.

I think it'll look good, would be tempted to get it myself but need front access at the moment for boobfeeding

thatsnotmymonkey · 22/12/2010 20:27

ROFL, fotheringhay I wondered how your "front access" sentence was going to end there!!

I am 34 and have just got back my pre baby figure....

I will rock the red lippy for the photos and then to the pub later. x

I'd keep the black belt, wear black tights and black shoeboots from Mark's. And dull gold jewellry - as opposed to brassy. Maybe not full on sexy but classy sexy iyswim

Minione · 22/12/2010 20:41

I really like that dress! I have the shoes on the link and think you need somethging equally high to give it a bit of edge! I have a similar shaped dress albeit sleeveless from Topshop and plan to wear it with said shoes for SIL's 40th. Not frumpy at all!

mathanxiety · 23/12/2010 07:08

Tis a short sack with a belt. With a print like that you need something far more clingy, not a blouson waist.

thatsnotmymonkey · 23/12/2010 12:51

It is quite fitted though, not body sculpting.

I will try on again today and make a decision...I just don't know!

needs very high sexy heels and preferable leggy person wearing it

Gillybobs · 23/12/2010 13:07

I LOVE this...its perfect for christmas day IMHO.

Always think animal print needs to be worn in a non-revealing way IYSWIM otherwise it looks too tarty. I think this dress gets it just right, fairly short but not too revealing up top. Will look fierce with high heels and red lippy. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

panettoinydog · 23/12/2010 13:20

not keen. Neckline makes it look frumpy I think

Whitethorn · 23/12/2010 13:25

I like it, its quite 'now' and with ankle boots and the right bag, it could look great.

If you wnat to please your husband, tight and low cut is generally the way to go. they just don't 'get' fashion

purplepeony · 23/12/2010 14:02

not quite right imo.

The neckline is high and the cut looks a bit baggy = frumpy.

i think it could easily look cheap- sorry.

minipie · 23/12/2010 14:20

If it fits you well (sounds like it does) it won't be frumpy. High neck is offset by shortish length. Will need proper high heels though.

Could you wear a more interesting belt that draw more attention to your waist? I'm thinking something wider with an interesting buckle or clasp at the front.

Red lipstick does wonders. have you shown it to your DH with all the trimmings, or just on its own?

thatsnotmymonkey · 23/12/2010 14:33

I have been trying to think like Polly Vernon and as rule of thumb the less my DH likes something, the more "on trend" it is.

I have a skinny gold belt with a tiger clasp that I think I will use round the middle and then the shoes...well I have grey leather ankle boots that might work as well.

I am tempted to go and try it all on and post some pictures. SADDO. I am a bit cold for that though....hmm.

Style jury is quite split, although leaning more to the frump side I fear. Arse, the dress I had ordered from H&M has not arrived.

Cyb · 23/12/2010 14:35

Wowee thats a dress crying out for a v neck

thatsnotmymonkey · 23/12/2010 14:40

Cyb! I thought you would get here eventually.

V- necks do not work on me, make me look Like a man. I have no cleavage, small tits and broadish shoulders.

OP posts:
minipie · 23/12/2010 15:09

Skinny gold belt with tiger clasp sounds good.

Grey ankle boots not so much, stick to the black tights and black mary janes unless your legs are fabulous

Cyb · 23/12/2010 17:06

monkey, in that case, ignore my advice

biryani · 23/12/2010 17:22

It's quite practical, isn't it? Think it would be "sexier" teamed with thin/ patterned tights and high heels, together with tons of slap.

thatsnotmymonkey · 23/12/2010 17:50

Grin at tons of slap
