Has anyone used this blusher from benefit - and does the product live up to the hype? Iam looking for something to brighten up my 40 something skin.I am fair with pink undertones to my skin and am desperate to revamp my makeup in the new year. so all you makeup guru's - enlighten me please.

Yes! I've used it for years now, as long as you tap the excess off the brush for a subtle look it's great, really flattering. I have similar skin tone to you.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2010 14:38

Benefit stuff is shite, though some people do love it for some reason.

I always recommend cream blusher as opposed to powder - wear cream or liquid blush on the apples of your cheeks, and wear a very pale bronzer under your cheekbones.

I currently use a liquid blusher from Boots Natural Collection, of all strange places, and it's brilliant. A very pale pink which suits my pale skin.

Tesco make up cream blush is bargainous as well for £4.

If you would rather have something a bit more expensive, Nars multiples are very good.

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 14:47

I also like the Boots Naturals blushers and they only cost pennies. In fact, I wonder if GOML might have been the one to rec it, as I bought it following a rec on here.

No 7 ones aren't bad either - I sometime sbuy one when Boots do those five pound off vouchers and they only work out at about a fiver then.

Dandelion is nice and suits my skin tone (you need to be very pale) but there's no way I'd spend that much on a blusher.

AuntieMaggie · 22/12/2010 14:51

I love dandelion, in fact I love all their blusher things!

Go and have a play in the new year but it sounds like it'll go great with your colouring!

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2010 14:58

Yes I did recommend that blusher on here before - glad you like it!

For some reason, even though I spend a fortune on eyeshadow and foundation, blusher is one of those things I am a cheapo about.

I did try dandelion as i am deathly pale, however it looked very powdery on.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 22/12/2010 14:58

I like dandelion - I think that it's one of their better products. Mind you, I'm a bit of a make up slut so am tempted by the Boots option Wink

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 15:01

Yes - am also a cheapskate with blusher but not eyeshadow or mascara (happy enough with Max Factor foundation though, now that Prescriptives has gone).

dorothydoda · 22/12/2010 15:12

I've also been considering coralista and ladybug by mac too which is cream. I wondered if i should avoid powder with my wrinkley delicate skin. I've never really been a blusher person but feel i really need to brighten my face up.

I think cream blusher is better for more mature skins - I have very dry skin hence by devotion to cream or liquid.

One thing which is really good is a product aclled Sodt Focus by tesco. It is a highlighter. I put a drop on top my cheeks before foundation, it adds a flattering shimmer.

Blusher and bronzer worn together sounds like mad overkill, however it really does brighten your face. I use a very pale aprictoty blusher from Clinique.

Thingumy · 22/12/2010 15:32

I have used Dandelion for years, key is to use it with a huge blusher brush and not the poxy thing they supply with the blusher.

I'm very pale and it gives me a natural pink hue.

Try it in-store.

For a brightener, you could try their High Beam

OooohWhatIfItHurts · 22/12/2010 16:28

I used to use Dandelion a few years back and thought that it didn't really do much for me (in the sense that it wasn't really doing anything at all).

That was until I realised that I hadn't removed the plastic protector sheet and had for some months been rubbing the brush on plastic and then onto my cheeks. Blush Hmm.

Top tip: take placcy bit off.

After that I found that it was a bit too pale pink and girly for me - I'm a bit olive-y.

Now I would recommend Laura Mercier cream blush in Praline.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 22/12/2010 16:38

I wouldn't call Dandelion a blusher really tbh. I do like it lots, but use it as more of a face brightener - good for giving pale skin a bit of a subtle lift, especially if you don't like wearing lots of foundation or bronzer so don't have much other colour on. It's a bit like Beauty Flash Balm in a way (which I also love and tend to use at the same time!), it just lifts and gives you a bit of a glow but without making you look made-up.

I always use it when I am going out or otherwise making an effort (don't usually wear any makeup for normal day-to-day). But I use it all over (just swooshed on), and then use a proper, and (slightly) stronger-coloured blusher on my cheeks as well if I feel like I need some.

talkingnonsense · 22/12/2010 16:39

Jo Malone do a stick of gel blusher that is fab on pale delicate skin, like you have been out walking in the cold, imo so worth the money.

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 17:11

That's useful advice, thanks, Inigo (God, I love your name too). I have just given myself a Beauty Flash balm face mask and I feel all glowy and warm (I love bfb)!

So, Dandelion lovers - you think it works out worth the money? How long does it last if you use it every day?

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 22/12/2010 17:13

I use Georgia rather than Dandelion but agree that these products are more of an all-over powder than a blusher. A box lasts me the best part of a year.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 22/12/2010 17:15

I do not find it very pale, on me I look like I have scarlet fever.

I returned it after the daft shop assistant said it was very flattering and I walked outside and caught sight of myself in a shop window.

I immediately marched back in and said 'how could you let me go out like this' in a very loud voice. She blushed and refunded me (and gave me tissues to wipe the stupid red powder off)

I think cream blushers and gel work much better on mature skin. I converted my mother to them after telling her brutally honestly that powder was starting to collect in the creases and made her skin look very papery.

Back on topic I didn't really like Dandelion. Not a huge fan of Benefit in general really.

Caz10 · 22/12/2010 17:40

I love Dandelion, but use a really tiny amount, a box lasts me far past what must really be hygenic! I wear very little make up and find it very subtle (but then hardly use much).
But it probably is very specifically suited to a small range of skin tones - worth trying in store!

tiokiko · 22/12/2010 19:22

I use it every day but think it's definitely a brightener rather than a blusher as there's not much colour.

I think it lasts me about a year roughly.

KenDoddsDadsDogEatsTinsel · 22/12/2010 19:34

I love it but put it on over Mac Creme Blush as it doesn't have much colour in it.

whoneedssleepanyway · 22/12/2010 19:48

i agree with what other people have said that it isn't really a blusher but more a brightener and that was what it was sold to me as when I had it before, I did like it but now I tend to use bobbi brown shimmer bricks as highlighters with blusher or bronzer underneath.

FaffTastic · 22/12/2010 20:01

I look better with it on than without it on but can't say it gives me a wonderous magical glow
