Help-3 weeks post baby nothing to wear

I have nothing to wear - simple as.

I have a wardrobe full of lovely clothes that a) do not fit me or b) cannot wear due to bf'ing. Still in maternity jeans that are falling down. I have searched the shops and nada. Getting very fed up looking like crap.

Ideally I would like a dress or tunic with front opening. The White Company is sold out of everything....

Any help greatly appreciated...

how about this?

I can totally sympathise - my DS2 is nearly 4 weeks old. I am also still in maternity wear, and some of the clothes I bought after DS1 was born.
My tips are:

  • After DS1 was born, I found some really good jeans at Uniqlo that weren't too expensive (once I accepted that I wasn't going to get straight back into my pre-preg jeans)
  • wear breast feeding vest tops under cardigans
  • buy some Spanx - they will help you fit into things much faster and you might feel better in them
  • keep looking in the shops - with DS1 I did find some front opening dresses/tunics to wear over leggings, or dresses that were very low cut and could be worn with the breast feeding vest tops. My mum came to Westfield with me and sat with DS1 while I nipped in and out of places looking
  • Depending on how long you want to breastfeed for, you might want to invest in some breastfeeding tops/dresses - you can find some great ones on-line. If you don't want to spend too much, try ebay
Good luck - remember it doesn't last forever

Hmm have to say that I looked crappy for ages after having DS for all of those reasons. It isn't easy.

First of all I'd definitely buy yourself some new cheap jeans. You'll probably be too small for them in a few weeks but I practically live in mine and it made me miserable when they were dropping down the whole time. Plus you get a very smug sense of satisfaction when you are able to go down to the next size.

YY to UNIQLO. Bought some cords there too for £20.

I wouldn't limit yourself just to tunics/dresses with buttons. I went round the shops stretching necklines to see how well they coped with being pulled down around my boobs and it was surprising how well many did. That means you can go for V necks and scoop necks too.

Maybe something like this knitted tunic from Uniqlo or this if you fancy some festive bling.

I didn't rate most of the breastfeeding clothes I bought. Most of them were fugly and I agree with ijordan that the breastfeeding vest plus cardigan or jumper trick works really well. My favourite breastfeeding tops were from boob and I liked them because they were simpe to use - less fishing around than other designs I found - and quite fitted so gave me a bit of shape (but it depends how worried you are about clingyness).

If you buy nursing tops with horizontal stripes the lines hide the line of the flap (IYSWIM).

HTH.

Oh and congratulations! Grin

I like Clure's option too. I think it is almost identical to something I have seen in the White Company.

I bought a few nursing tops (with slits) before giving birth, but found them quite useless and uncomfortable.

I have since bought a few low-cut and wrap tops and dresses on ebay (Kew, The White Company - £10-25 for new items) which work really well for bf as well as my self-esteem (whist exhilarated about becoming a mother, I felt rather low seeing my wobbly self in hideous baggy clothes).

I just bought a non-ugly BF top - basically a Breton stripy top - from a website called More 4 Mums - reduced to £9.99. it is actually quite nice. look for Mama Cocoon Organic Maternity and Nursing tops.

(sorry don't know how to link)
