He is brilliant at buying presents for me and I am crap at buying things for him - largely because he doesn't actually like much!

But I think he would quite like some 'perfume' or whatever it is called when it's for men.

Any ideas?

Something that smells of lovely manly things like black pepper, pine, eucalyptus, cardomon etc would be good. He likes Ted Baker shower stuff - I wonder if they do a fragrance/perfume thing?

Also - any ideas for a lovely soft, cosy, casual shirt that isn't too expensive please? That I can buy instore, as too late for online now. Somewhere like Gap, M&S would be good; nothing too trendy.

Please help! :)

Boots sell a Ted Baker fragrance for men here. Apparently it has crisp top notes of lime, bergamot and lemon with herbaceous notes of cypress, juniper and rosemary and a warm musk undertone. Does that sound like the kind of thing you're after?

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 20:10

You are a star - thank you.

Does anybody know any others that smell all manly and lovely please, so I can go and sniff a few? My favourite smell is tarmac, if that helps at all! :)

this is nice

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 20:14

Love that jumper (looks so cosy) but he wants a shirt...I think I'll go and have a look at it the jumper anyway.

I haven't been in The Body Shop for about 15 years(remember White Musk?)! Will have a look.

does your dp like gillets? ms has one- www.marksandspencer.com/Blue-Harbour-Outdoor-Gilet-Stormwear/dp/B003VWUFUE
ms shirts- www.marksandspencer.com/Blue-Harbour-Cotton-Check-Shirt/dp/B003ZKQ7AO?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_74&sr=1-74&qid=1292789482 but to be honest i would much rather go to Hawes&Curtis- www.hawesandcurtis.com/mens-formal-shirts-warwick-semi-cutaway_54.html- much more interesting design and quality.
As far as perfume goes- try Polo by Ralph Lauren- nice one and neutral (no annoying sticky smells)- www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Men's+Fragrances/1006,default,sc.html?prefn1=brand&prefv1=Ralph%20Lauren&sz=20&fix&spcl

Paribus · 19/12/2010 20:50

Paul Smith is also quite nice and inexpensive- www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Paul+Smith+Extreme+For+Men+Gift+Set/142742924,default,pd.html?cgid=1006

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 20:57

Will deffo check out the Paul Smith - thanks.

He wouldn't like a gillet but thanks anyway.

The H&C shirts look too work-ish, I think and I don't much like that M&S one.

Thank you for your help.

What kind of casual shirts do other people's dps wear?

He is going to end up with virtually nothing for Christmas at this rate! AND it's his birthday in january - arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :)

You NEED Jean Paul Gaultier.

My knees go wobbly at the mere thought of it...

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:03

What does it smell like, Tethers? Does it have a hint of tarmac, perchance?

OP posts:
tethersjinglebellend · 19/12/2010 21:08

To my mind, yes- very musky and...manly.

And could probably fill a pothole. Or something.

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:09

Sounding good - will deffo check it out!

panettoinydog · 19/12/2010 21:10

dh is mad about howies shirts. Have you heard of them? Online only unless you live in south wales and bristol, I think. Which rules it out for christmas.

V well made, soft cotton, casula, lots of checks, outdoorsy marketing but you don't have to be outdoorsy.

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:11

Outdoorsy checks sound about right. No Howies in Brum though.

panettoinydog · 19/12/2010 21:12

that patrick one will be wrapped under the tree soon

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:13

Looks perfect - will remember to look again before his birthday. Ta.

Molton Brown black pepper is nice for bodywash and aftershave.

Superdry do nice brushed cotton check shirts for men.

panettoinydog · 19/12/2010 21:15

yep, superdry do a good check too

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:16

Molton Brown black pepper - how did I forget that? I love their Eucalyptus but too expensive for every day at the rate I get through bubble bath!

Is Superdry a shop or a brand?

OP posts:
panettoinydog · 19/12/2010 21:17

both I suppose. Their shops are popping up everywhere. Must be one in Brumland

JustKeepSparkling · 19/12/2010 21:21

Superdry is a brand AFAIK, not tried it.

DH has just recently ordered some of these shirts and loves them.

Maybe too late for Christmas I suppose.

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:24

Thanks - I think they look a bit too formal for him though.

OP posts:
JustKeepSparkling · 19/12/2010 21:26

Well oddly they do on the website, and are listed under Formal shirts but DH wears them as casual. His 'country look' he calls it - topped off with latest acquisition..a tweed flat cap Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

BelligerentYhoULE · 19/12/2010 21:29
