Best hairbrush for thick long hair?

Not mine (sob!) but my dd's (yay!). We have a mason pearson, but that doesn't get through the thickness, iyswim. The more open plastic bristled type just seem to hurt and rip at the hair.
What do you lovely luscious haired ladies suggest?

I use a Denman to start off with, then finish with the Mason Pearson. This gets through the tangles and then leaves a lovely glossy finish. The finish the MP gives cannot be beaten. My grandma used to recommend 100 strokes. Definitely worth investing in good hairbrushes.

Definitely get a tangle teezer.

DD has very long, thick curly hair which can be a nightmare, even after using loads of conditioner, detangling spray, normal brushes tec. But the tangle teezer really does work - one minute in the morning and we are ready to rush out of the door with no tears.

Oh, and always begin by just brushing the bottom few inches, then add a couple more, until you are brushing the full length. This avoids 'ouchiness' and stops hair from breaking.

a paddle brush

Havingkittens · 18/12/2010 13:33

Aveda paddle brush is excellent

I'd second the Denman.

A friend gave us a 'tangle teezer' for DD - it is good. We call it 'the dog brush' Grin

I find what works for DD is to use a wide-toothed comb on her hair when its still wet, working in about 4 sections. After that the Mason Pearson ususally works but if not, the 'dog brush'.

She can't manage her own hair yet, as she's 11 she really needs to be able to - maybe a Denman might help, any specific recommendations please? (hope I'm not hijacking but the OP might like this info too Smile)

Thanks for all replies.
Yes please, specific Denman recommendations. Do you think paddle (individual plastic bristle with small ball end) is better, or styling (thick white plastic 'bristle') or grooming (bunches of nylon bristle all together) ?
We did have a tangle teazer, and it was okay, but bristles not really long enough to get through the hair.

I have a couple of styling type brushes from Denman. Something like the large 9 row styling brush shown here

How many people go through the craziness of their little girl freaking out when brushing their hair. I have discovered the best hair detangling brush on the planet. Check it out...

Hair Detangling Brush

Tangle Teezer is the only brush I've ever used which worked well without causing frizz. I haven't long hair but my hair is very thick, wavy and was shoulder length when I bought it.
