Help me perk up our bedroom please

So dp has just painted the bedroom in a colour called 'warm cream' which has come out a kind of very pale apricot-ish colour. It actually looks really nice but the 'normal' cream curtains and duvet cover look a bit cold and strange next to it now.

So - I'd like to get new curtains and a new duvet cover set, without spending much. Any ideas for what might look nice? Have only had cream ones for so long that I don't really know where to start!

How about purple? We wanted to perk our room up a bit - at the minute its cream walls with brown curtains and brown & teal bedding. We cheated really as we had some deep purple (damson really) paint left over from the conservatory so we're going to paint the wall behind the bed in that colour, leave the rest of the walls cream and I've bought some purple curtains and a purple & cream stripy duvet set from Next and was just going to get a few cheapy purple flowers or fancy glass bits of crap from Wilkies to finish it off Grin

Mmmm - not sure it would go tbh, as the walls are sort of honey-ish/pale apricot-ish, rather than mere cream! Will have a look at the duvet sets and curtains on the Next site though - thank you.

Dp would go mad if I bought fancy glass crap or fake flowers! He hates 'clutter' of any sort. :)

Oranges and greens

yomellamoHelly · 16/12/2010 21:39

I would have thought either colours either side on the colour wheel - so a more yellow apricot, or yellow if that would go, or orange - or colours on the other side - so greens. 'spose only way to know is to get some colour swatches.

Oh dear - not fancying any of those either, sorry. I don't really like 'colour' as such. I like neutrals. Agh!

Any more please, folks?

Sorry - I know I'm a pain.

If you don't like the colours, what about textures? A fluffy rug/ quilted bedspread/ velvet cushions?

BelligerentYhoULE · 17/12/2010 15:47

V good ideas - but what colours? :)

Links please?

Get a paint chart and hold various contrasting colours next to the wall. You'll find a colour that really "goes" and you can then use that as your basis for soft furnishings (curtains/cushions etc).

It's difficult without seeing the colour, but how about minky brown and black? Or terracotta? Or a deep raspberry pink?

notasize10yetbutoneday · 17/12/2010 16:15

Yes agree with Mrs claus- a mink brown/latte colour. I have some gorgeous latte colour faux-silk curtains in our hall- from TJ Hughes.

BelligerentYhoULE · 17/12/2010 18:42

Liking the sound of minky brown and latte.

I love raspberry too but I don't think Mr He Who Would Live Inside An Eggshell If He Could would approve!

Thank you. :)

Strong colours like raspberry pink or green are good for accent items, like cushions, throws and ornaments. If you have a neutral room it can really change the look without being overpowering. And it is cheap to change if you get bored!

BelligerentYhoULE · 18/12/2010 12:05

Thanks.

Now - does anybody want to link me to some lovely latte coloured duvet covers and/or curtains?

And maybe (if I blindfold dp) some raspberry coloured cushions?

Brilliant - thank you. :)

How about something brocade-y?
