Looking for a winter foundation, but not too heavy or expensive...and good for covering wrinkles and big pores!!

benefit some kind of gorgeous is the one I use, it is in a kind of record case, wasnt cheap but has lasted me 2 years.

Millie1 · 14/12/2010 13:47

I've just started using the cheapest of the By Terry foundations ... I'm really pale and it's so lovely on. It's about £54 though so not cheap. I think it really depends on your skin-type and as I've learned (via M'net and make-up counters recently) so brands are good for yellow tones and some for pink so you really do need to go and try some out. Smile

I have very pale skin and use Boots No7 mousse foundation in a jar. Medium coverage. I am not sure what colour it is but it is the lightest.

lovelyopaque · 14/12/2010 20:30

You could try Myface Mymix foundation. Colours are good and it is light. About £12. Get it in Boots.

purplepeony · 14/12/2010 22:21

Clinique- superbalanced, or dewy smooth, or soft finish- loads- go and try.

accessorizequeen · 14/12/2010 23:14

I'm quite pale and pores not great. I use LilyLolo Blondie mineral foundation but you can get a shade paler as well. You can get samples to try at home which I thought was great. I found most other brands too dark, I have a Lancome one that was ok but Clinique etc didn't have a shade anywhere near light enough. The LilyLolo just seems to skate over my skin rather than sink in.

moragbellingham · 15/12/2010 18:14

MyMix is a good price and nice texture but for heavier coverage Diorskin nude is good (and they have a very pale one which I mistakenly was bulldozed into buying!!)

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 18:16

bobbi brown is yellow toned and suits me but i can't use it on my forehead as it sinks into my wrinkles and i get a stripy head :(

Bucharest · 15/12/2010 18:21

Clarins Instant Smooth 00 colour. T'is fantabulous.

RubyReins · 15/12/2010 20:16

I concur with accessorizequeen. I was sceptical of mineral foundations but I succumbed when India Knight wrote about it. I wear LilyLolo Blondie and it is great. One pot lasts a year (I wear it most days) and it's about £12. My colleagues have described me as "executive goth" Hmm owing to my paleness (we all have to wear black so it can't be that!) I had horrific acne until my early twenties and the remnants can be visible in certain lights. This stuff covers many a sin.

domesticslattern · 15/12/2010 20:23

Has anyone pale tried that Nicola Roberts Dainty Doll range yet? Has always intrigued me...

whensitgunnahappen · 15/12/2010 20:27

Bobby brown is fantastic! As is armani for pale tones. Clarins complexion perfector would be great for you. Get colour matched though.

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:42

is mineral good for covering scars then? am interested...

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/12/2010 20:46

I agree that By Terry is excellent - well worth the price (from £50 - £100)

Depends also if you have a yellow or pink tone to your skin. Chanel does pale but yellow tones only (ditto Chantecaille), no good for me. Lancome does very pale but pink toned which suits me better. These are all around the £25 mark.

But By Terry is by far the best.

Don't bother trying cheap stuff - it goes patchy and looks chalky on.

tyaca · 15/12/2010 21:00

max factor lasting performance in palest shade. £10 - lasts ages.

i first used this 18 years ago. when i had more cash i tried lots of pricier ones, some as good, none better. after all this time, it's the one i've kept coming back to.

it's quite heavy, full coverage. as a fifteen year old i just piled it on. now i mix it with moisturiser to get a lighter coverage. really rate it.

fwiw - i have pale, slightly blue-pink toned skin (think skimmed milk yak!)

smilesandsun · 15/12/2010 21:13

I have very pale skin and big pores Sad but have found that the Laura Mercer tinted moisturiser foundation is an absolute winner. Always used with a blusher too.

I think that the mistake is to go heavy even if its the right shade, unless your a makeup artist it seems to just highlight that you have big pores.

Light weight and the right colour just hides it enough and stops highlighting the problem. Perhaps a light dust of Mac studio finish ontop at night or if you shiny. Even other counters have said that they would keep the tinted moisturiser and not suggest changing to one of their products.

whensitgunnahappen · 15/12/2010 21:28

So you use clarins pore minimising serum for your pores? It's fab. And in terms of application, a foundation brush is key. You use less product and more coverage. 2 quid from boots x

domesticslattern · 15/12/2010 22:37

I use Laura Mercier too. Really rate it. Good dispenser too.

cowboylover · 15/12/2010 22:43

I am pale and ginger so a foundation nightmare but I find Este Lauder double wear foundation great they have a powder or liquid version.

blake11 · 16/12/2010 00:59

I'm really pale and used to use a Lancome foundation until they stopped making the palest shade! Now use Bobbi Brown 'Skin Foundation' and I'm not even the palest shade in that! (and I'm seriously white). It costs around £30 I think, but I prob get through 2 a year, used most days.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/12/2010 09:58

I would love to be a makeup artist. Envy at lulumama - make up artist in a previous life, doula in this one. What brilliant jobs!

MayorNaze · 16/12/2010 10:00

2 a year? Shock

my bobbi brown is nearly 2 years old and i use it every day frm late sptember until i get a tan.

actually 2 years old is really scummy isn't it Blush

Celery · 16/12/2010 11:14

Diorskin Nude. It is very natural and just Brilliant.

blake11 · 16/12/2010 11:47

Actually maybe it lasts longer than 6 months then, I use one pump per time, so perhaps nearer to a year. Honestly can't remember when I last bought one. Good anyway!
