What coulour are you thinking of dying it?

Personally, I'd be worried that doing it yourself over highlights could cause it to go uneven or a funny colour, but I've never tried it myself so maybe someone who has would be better to advise!

Be very careful. The last time I tried this I went khaki Blush

When I had my highlighted hair turned brown by hairdresser they sponged it with red hair dye first. I don't know why.

Would love to just colour it myself instead of spending £££ at hairdresser.

Probably best to use a semi permanent colour, no more than three shades darker and steer clear of anything that says ash, go for golden tones. the reason the colour goes green is because the ash base in the dye is blue therefore blue+yellow(blonde)= green. To get a natural shae you have to use a violet ash tone and you can never be certain which ash is used in the dyes.

Going really dark, the red is applied first because it is the colour that has been bleached out of the hair, so it needs to go back in before the dark goes over the top or your hair will look dreadful
