Where to get very wide shoes for ds?

My ds is just about walking and is sliding everywhere in his socks as nearly everywhere we go has wooden floors.
Took him to clarkes to get measured and he came up 4.5H and he also has a very high instep. We tried every style in the store but couldn't even get ds's foot in them, let alone fasten them!

Has anyone any ideas on where to get ds some shoes? Ds also has a twin sister (luckily she has dainty feet!) so also need to keep the cost down if possible?

Have you tried Startrite shoes? My DS is a G and we go to a shop that sells both Clarks and Startrite and usually have a choice.

Thanks, have now tried startrite, clarkes and a John Lewis to get something for his feet but no luck!
One assistant even kept going up a half size to see if his foot would fit in and we stopped at 6.5H as still no joy!

Any ideas will be tried out!

If you've tried all of those then I'm out of ideas sorry.

Maybe this will bump it for you though.

Bumping for you.

I had the same problem with DS1 (who is now 20)

Took him to a really old man to get fitted for shoes (its a long story I'll tell if you like I think he was 90 odd at the time) and he said all of my family were the same Grin

Old shoe man thought I was my Granny and we worked out that he had fitted shoes on

My great-granny
My granny
My Mum
Me
My son

5 generations of the same family

Doesn't help your problem but DS1 was a HH

So bumpity bump bump bump

Thanks for the bumps.
Have been snowed in so not an issue this week but still searching for an answer Grin

Funkingcart thats amazing that he remembered all of your family!

Stick - he was amazing!! He only died in 2007 as well he was .

I thought at first he thought I was my Mum but it was so hilarious when I realised he thought I was my Gran!! Apparently my eldest son is the double of my Grans brother David LMAO. The kids were totally awestuck at him.

He was a really good friend of my Great Uncle AKA Unk. His name was Banty (Agnew) Hamilton and the shoe shop was in Larne in Northern Ireland (it's not there anymore so not advertising lol)

As an aside, you can get a Clarks shop to look in their book and order in shoes in the right size for your DS to try on.

HTH

I don't work for happylittlesoles.co.uk I just get shoes from there! They do several foot-friendly brands of shoes, my daughter's got pretty wide feet (G) and I got some Elk shoes from there which have at least 1cm more width space in them than the equivalent size Startrite shoes, which were the first ones I bought her Blush. Try the Preschoolians Euro trainers, they're really wide!

I think the problem here is the high instep - Ds had very wide feet though slimmed down now - but his instep is still very high. I find velcro shoes a PITA for high instep shoes. What about a pair of Kickers? They do lighter weight baby ones now and lots of the shops that sell them measure too. I find Clarks USELESS, but generally alwasy needed a t bar or ideally lace ups for DS as had more leverage. he couldn't wear wellies for ages - they were so tight! But now wears Hunter wellies a size up and is ok in those.

taytotayto · 31/01/2011 21:08

i agree with maxybrown clarks are useless they fitted my dd with a pair of first shoes 3 sizes too big. i was so mad, mostly at myself for letting her wear them cos i trusted them but my sister pointed the error out and i was hoppin mad mainly as the cost as they sure know how to charge, going to try startright next time.

Geox is your answer - my DS1 has very wide feet also, and Geox are beautifully made, breathable shoes. They aren't that cheap in John Lewis but you can find some bargains at Sarenza. I'm just about to buy DS1 his 5th pair of them!
