Bra size - knowledgable people please!

I think my bra size has changed recently so I measured myself and put it into some online bra size calculators. However, it came out at 34a - I'm currently wearing a 30b and I have a 29 inch back and 34 at the largest point so I can't be a 34 band size, surely? Expert help needed please!

That calculator is crap.

There was a really good thread on here a few months back. I think the gist was that you no longer need to do the "add 4 inches" thing. Apparently the standards changed a while back .

Go to a shop or a big department store with proper bra fitters and get refitted there.

TrillianAstra · 13/12/2010 12:39

Go try on some bras.

You are probably rather more than a B cup.

muddleduck · 13/12/2010 12:50

My guess is 30 D or E

I live in a town with no decent shops, although there is an M&S. Went in today after work to find they don't do any bras in a 30 at all Angry apart from some 30A teenage crop top types. So bloody annoying.

Give bravissimo a call. Their customer service people usually give really helpful advice.

I measure a 29-30 underband and a 34 round biggest part ( always tricky as is this over cold nipples or not? Smile adds on another inch!)

Currently wearing 32C M&S push up T shirt after years in a 34 A then 34 B- fianlly think I have got right size.

Milk Chic
That is very interesting - can you have a look at thread I linked to above. Someone on there (who seemed to know what she was talking about) gave very different advice to you.

If I follow her instructions I end up in a 32H (which is perfect and is what I was fitted with in Bravissimo)
Whereas if I follow your instructions I'd end up in (I think) the 36G which M&S put me in which gave no support and which gave me backache.

Having read that thread a while back I thought I'd finally got to the bottom of why I've worn uncomfortable bras for so many years, but now you've got me confused again.

thanks.

Please go into a proper lingerie shop and get measured (try and get recommendations)

I went in thinking I was 38DD and came out a 34GG.

The woman didn't measure me, just did it by sight and she wouldn't let me see what size I was until she'd finished.

purplepeony · 14/12/2010 13:23

Milkchic- can you tell me what the logic is adding 4-5 inches to back size?

What is the point in measuring under the bust if we then add on another 4 inches?

I spent most of my life in 34 A then someone took a look at me fully dressed and said no way was I 34 back- (I am a size 8) this was in a lingerie shop.
I now wear a 32C most of the time, or a 34B/C depending on fit.
