winter wedding make up for a bride

Hi. I'm getting married in 9 days and can't afford a make up artist so am planning to do my own make up. It's a cosy winter wedding in a country house with a traditional white dress and veil etc. I usually wear mineral make up but wondered if u should wear something heavier as a base for the day. Also, I'm not sure whether to wear bolder colours because it's winter or subtle make up to look more bride-like and as I'm blonde! Incidentally, I'm also 5 months pregnant (we got a surprise early wedding present so luckily the dress still fits!) but my skin is a bit uneven from the hormones in the first few months. I usually wear glasses but plan to have contact lenses in for most of the day.

I would stick with your usual look but a little bit stronger. Maybe define your eyes a little more than usual, for instance. Get a bridesmaid/sister etc to keep a little kit for touchups of powder and lipstick for you. Have a lovely day!

I went to Space NK for a free makeover and bought some of their products before my wedding.

I actually don't recommend pixiwoo for wedding makeup (sorry). That's more for trashy or fantasy looks.

I recommend gossmakeupartist on youtube for ideas. He does a lot of weddings.

He's got more sensible ideas about lining eyes (NOT winging eyeliner etc), getting flawless skin

I would recommend a medium to light foundation (myface one is great if you can't get to a Sephora or specialist makeup shop)

NARS Exhibit A blush (much better than Orgasm)

some not-too-shimmery neutrally eye shadows (again Bobbi is good, something like cement) or NARS Portabella duo

Lip liner in blush (bobbi I think) all over lips (makes it last) and MAC Taupe on the top. No lip gloss.

I did my wedding makeup and was red lipsticked up. Not sure if that was good though.

otch yes loads of the looks are OTT but Sam in particular has done some really soft flattering looks too

Wow, I've not heard Pixiwoo referred to as "Trashy" before! A lot of the more dramatic looks they do are high fashion looks for other make up artists to get inspiration from and learn new techniques. They are both very talented make up artists who work in the fashion and beauty industry and as such are very versatile, as most make up artists are. As well as the stronger looks they do also do a lot of beautiful hollywood glamour as well as natural make ups. There is also a wedding tutorial on their site.

Oh I like pixiwoo ? don?t get me wrong. I think they are talented but the preponderance of looks are fantasy or tutorials to look like certain trashy celebs (Aguilera, pam Anderson etc). I?ve seen the wedding one and thought it was average. Gossmakeup on the other hand gives good tutorials on HD foundations and flawless skin and neutrals, and tips to avoid looking naff (no winged eyeliner etc)

My friend, who is one of London?s top makeup artists and who has founded a new high-fashion/fantasy makeup line (who pixiwoo use a lot), isn't a huge fan. I take her word for it.

See which you like the most. Having got married myself in full Hollywood get up I?d not go down that route again, it?s not that flattering in daylight.
