What would you style this dress with?

Have bought this Mint Velvet dress for a party next week, it is nice and simple.

What would some of you experts style this with? I was thinking either some sort of cuff OR a statement necklace? Or I have 5 very tiny diamonds on a very delicate short chain that I could wear around my neck - but maybe this dress requires more?

On feet it will just have to be some not terribly trendy high heeled black shoes, the budget will not stretch to anything new!

MMmmm its lovely. big chunky silver cuff would be fab. Not sure about necklaces as I can very get them right myself.
What are the shoes like?

thenightsky · 11/12/2010 19:07

never get them right myself.... grrr at stupid keyboard

nightsky, it is lovely on - think Mint Velvet could be my new one-stop shop! The shoes - well ... the are high-ish black suede pointy LK Bennett numbers - a few years old but pretty classic. Would prefer something maybe a bit more up-to-date but think they might be ok with some black opaques?

Am veering towards a cuff, in fact Mint Velvet have a rather nice one on sale - not so much a cuff, more of a chunky bracelet.

I am normally a 40-something frazzled mum in jeans and so any sort of dressing up constitutes a slight panic!

You need red shoes with that dress. Then you can wear a cuff (I would do gold, but silver ok) with pride.

Will look for something cheap.

tethersjinglebellend · 11/12/2010 21:08

Cheaper than socks

High

suede

Round toe

tethersjinglebellend · 11/12/2010 21:10

Dress is gorgeous BTW.

FaffTastic · 11/12/2010 21:55

Think a cuff would look fab with it.

With grey I tend to wear silver or black jewelery, though a purple or red cuff/bracelet would look nice with grey too.

Add a nice pair of earrings and you're ready to roll.

ooh thanks! But - if red shoes - then wot tights? Was hoping I could wear black opaque - but not with red shoes?

Have you thought of a bib necklace? New look do a cheap one, but they are in loads of stores. Sorry i can't do links on phone bur a quick google turns up loads, from a tenner to a hundred quid. My feeling is if you have a zingy neckline then you can get away with your plain shoes, just about.

BelligerentGhoul · 11/12/2010 23:27

Oh you lucky person - I tried that on and it looked bloomin' hideous on me.

Black opaques and black heels and a big black bib necklace on a ribbon would be lovely.

tethersjinglebellend · 11/12/2010 23:35

I think a bib necklace would detract from the detail on the dress... and I would wear nude tights or grey opaques with red shoes.

FaffTastic · 12/12/2010 00:20

Agree that black tights would look awful with red shoes with that dress.

Love bib necklaces but do think that one would detract from the detail on the dress and would be a bit too much.

Better to keep the necklace nice and simple if you're going to wear one. Think due to the detailing on it, it doesn't need a necklace, think a cuff and earrings woould be enough.

Thank you very much everyone! Am going to go with statement cuff (need to buy), earrings and just the black shoes and tights. Guess I need a clutch, too (don't have one!)
