Helix piercings, earring advice

For dd1, not me!

Dd had the top of her ear pierced with a 1.1mm guage, and after 3 months is now stressing she can't find any earrings to fit. Can anyone tell me what size she needs to be looking for? She's looking for long labret studs or rings.

Many thanks.
She's 17 btw, before anyone gets a bit judgey!

here?

They don't seem to come in 1.1mm? Do you happen to know what size to wear for a 1.1mm hole? I'm thinking 1mm but she's worried the hole will shrink to that size and she won't be able to get earrings in. Sorry if I sound dim about this!!

Thanks.

Some lovely stuff on there though - many thanks.

I have no idea as my dd just has a lip piercing (standard size).I saw 1mm and 1.2mm on the site though.Could she go back to the piercer and ask if she should 'stretch' it with a 1.2?

goingmadinthecountry · 09/12/2010 21:37

Thanks - will phone them tomorrow. Dd just read your post and looked a bit aargh-ish!! Stretching worries her!

Stretching is fine, so long as she doesn't go past 5mm it will always shrink back and noone would ever know.
Unfortunately I have 20mm ears so am doomed to flappy ears forever :)
1.2 is usually the standard size for a first piercing but a 1mm would be fine, although I would always go for the heavier option with a helix because you don't want it to bend out of shape
Is she looking for a ball closure ring or one if the fancy twisty ones?

goingmadinthecountry · 10/12/2010 07:29

Thank you - a lot clearer now! She's looking at ball closure rings. Does that mean she can stretch it herself by putting the 1.2mm in? I must sound really dim about this and appreciate the advice.

Yeah it's not a huge difference in size so she should be able to do it herself, fiddly though.

Easiest way is to put on a pair of rubber gloves first so that you have some grip, it will be a tiny bit sore, a kind of burning red way but it's completely bearable.

The ball needs to clip in at both sides as well which is possibly the most annoying thing to try to do, it either works first time or takes 5 hours.

If you're struggling, leave it and go to the piercers. If you buy the jewellery from them they will usually put it in for free

Brilliant. Thanks very much. And to think she laughed at me for saying I'd ask on MN!
