Help me find a warm, classic winter coat, pretty please

I have gazed and gazed at sites until I've gone cross eyed! I need help.

I want it to be warm, classic, dark, and then it's got to look at least OK on me which is the problem.

I'm not quite 5ft 1in
I'm chubby: 38", 32", 41"

so it can't be belted.
I'd need long plain lines I think?

(So far the only one I've found is the one I bought dd, which is a school coat and I don't think they make them big enough for my bum! This one!)

It's so long since I had a good coat I can't even remember where you would look for them.

Thank you.

Ah, but have you checked out John Lewis?
Best site going.

Jux · 07/12/2010 22:55

Well, yes, and I quite like this one but could do without the fur.

Any others? (Off to bed now, but will be back tomorrow early evening I think.)

I like the fur.
It makes it.

Tether and I love this (seeing as you are obv happy to fork out)
Here.

Jux · 08/12/2010 09:04

That is gorgeous isn't it?

I can't carry off a high collar like that though; I'm not sure how happy I am to fork out that much - but I have just received the first installment of my inheritance so could fork out if it were the perfect forever coat!

OK,I know this isn't black, but Camel coats are always "in" in Winter. I'm hoping Santa-ie DH-took heed of my massive hint about this as Christmas pressie.
Also like this,this one.
Or this one?

Of the coats linked, the Reiss one looks to be the most slimming/flattering. Think w your dimensions you need one that goes in at the waist, so not straight up and down. And double breasted could be tricky w your frame (ie they can make you look wider, tho' not always). Unfort the Laura Ashley ones flare out at the hips, which I think is better for someone taller.

The Reiss one creates bulk at the neckline, going in at the waist, making you look smaller in the middle. I have an hourglass body (frankly am a little curvy, but hour glass sounds better... ) and find that I need things that follow the curves I wish I have.

I bought a coat in my local Jaeger outlet which was spookily similar to the Reiss one, bit gutted to see last time I was there that it's gone down to £175 but I've worn it a LOT and it looks AMAZING! Can't see it online, might be worth having a look if you have an outlet nearby. I am 5ft 1 like you and it honestly looks like it was made for me.

Jux · 08/12/2010 12:03

I like the Reiss too, though I'm wondering if it's a bit short - I assumed I'd need something a bit longer to make me look less wide Grin

The Jaeger stand collar coat is really nice too.

I also like the Laura Ashley shawl collar, which I had seen a couple of days ago, but wasn't sure about. Agree I'd probably need to be taller though. (Shucks, that's the cheapest too!)

Hmmm, what to do...

I'm off to London on Friday, so may spend Saturday just wandering round coat shops!

If you are shopping in London, can I recommend Westfield? It will be crazy busy, but so will everywhere, and at least all the shops are under the one roof. Happy shopping!

Jux · 08/12/2010 23:30

Westfield? Ah, just checking it out.

I like this one.

And this.

I think I'll have two of these.

OK, there are 3 here which aren't such ridiculous prices, in fact, almost reasonable!

Not sure I've got the clothes to be able to walk into any of those places, nor the haircut! Nor the shoes. You'd have to buy online before you could go in Grin
