My hairdresser uses it on me and I like it so much I've asked for some from DP for Christmas.

You do have to buy it from a reputable source not ebay though otherwise you might end up with some dodgy cooking oil.

I don't think it has a smell, difficult to tell though as hair always smells of shampoo and stuff after having it done at the hairdressers

SingingTunelessly · 07/12/2010 18:28

Yes my hairdresser uses it on my hair as well. I've just bought the shampoo to try at home. Hair does feel silky and have a good shine but whether that is just the 'hairdresser' effect remains to be seen. Quite a subtle scent to it.

ricketyrock · 07/12/2010 18:47

i thought it smelt sort of sandlewoody. I was wondering if I should just get some of this argan oil something like this
www.thenaturalstore.co.uk/product/natural-spa-supplies-argan-oil-hammam-spa-process---step-3/17687

I am so cynical about products that hairdressers try and sell us and that morrocan oil is expensive

My friend swears by plain old Almond oil. She has amazing shiny black hair. It's about £3 at tesco.

KenDoddsDadsDogEatsTinsel · 07/12/2010 18:50

I am a recent convert. My hair was wrecked after pregnancy and then using ghds every day. It's the only thing that has improved the condition and believe me I am a hair product junkie!

Ormirian · 07/12/2010 18:52

Yes it is as good as they say!

BitOfFun · 08/12/2010 17:29

I've been having a google since seeing this mentioned here a few times, and it seems that the active ingredient is Argan oil. I have just nipped out and bought a big bottle of it for £15.00 at the health food shop.

If you've got curly hair, it is better to stay away from the silicones which are the main ingredients of the branded Morroccan Oil products.

ricketyrock · 08/12/2010 18:26

BitOfFun - I am very excited about this - you are a girl after my own heart - please will you keep me updated as to what happens.

Argan oil is sposed to be good for everything - nails skin hair. I wonder, though, how you stop your hair getting greasy. I mean I know you wouldn't put lots in, put in in the ends only, but still, it's a fine line between smooth/silky and greasy, that I don't manage to tread.

I have used a five pence sized blob, rubbed it between both hands and raked it through my windswept mop- it looks pretty good Xmas Grin. I'll give it a proper roadtest after I've done the whole wet and condition stuff in the shower tomorrow, and let you know how that goes.

I tend to agree with you that anything punted by salons and magazines is likely to be highly marked up in price, and doesn't necessarily have as much of the good stuff in as you'd expect.

ricketyrock · 08/12/2010 21:23

Yes and, as you point out, the silicones in it are both cheap and not very nourishing. There is such a load of nonsense talked about in the hair/ beauty industry based on pseudo science. If hair is dry it needs oil, that makes sense though.

KenDoddsDadsDogEatsTinsel · 08/12/2010 21:53

Ooh must get some Argan Oil! Good tip thanks.

glovesoflove · 09/12/2010 12:17

Had some Morrocanoil given to me by someone who bought it but didn't like it. I am well known for my "Irish hair" and constant search for helpful products.

It smells nice and makes my hair feel soft but I wouldn't buy it as it doesn't really do anything to tame it. Cuts down on frizz but not wave. HOWEVER I think I might give it to my sis who has giant curly mop as I think it would probaby work fairly well on that*. Though as PP says, silicones etc not all that great for the curls.

*I would report back but she will prob just apply it and then attack her poor hair with GHDs as usual :( I should have got the curls!

BitOfFun · 09/12/2010 20:06

Fuck me- this stuff is GOOD fgrin

My hair looks bloody marvellous if I do say so myself...I'll put a pic up after The Apprentice.

ricketyrock · 09/12/2010 20:26

yes please do

OP posts:
PatTheHammer · 09/12/2010 20:29

It is fantastic, I am a recent convert and after years of either ineffective 'taming' stuff or products that end up looking like an oil slick, this is just right.

It has changed my life, I tell thee Xmas Smile

ricketyrock · 09/12/2010 20:55

Pat - are you talking about morrocon oil or argan oil?

OP posts:
PatTheHammer · 09/12/2010 21:15

Oh, the morrocan stuff rickety, I had not heard of the other stuff till on this thread.

Having read back then it probably suits my hair because it is frizz-prone and wavy but not curly as such.

(At least not anymore since having the goddam DC's.............evil pregnancy hair-changing hormonesEnvy)

BitOfFun · 09/12/2010 21:17

Right-oh- new pic of hair up. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy- it was tricky to do with my phone.

ricketyrock · 09/12/2010 21:48

BOF, lovely hair - more to the point though - you have curly hair AND a fringe! I have v curly hair and I want a fringe. Do you ever straighten your hair? I am going through a phase of it at the mo. Once a week I straighten my hair - do you think the argan oil would also work as a de frizzer on straightened hair?

Pat, that is glowing praise indeed.

OP posts:
LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 09/12/2010 21:50

Mine is curly, and it looks lovely with the moroccan oil on it. It also smells lovely.

BitOfFun · 09/12/2010 22:59

I have to have a fringe on account of my forehead needing to be massive to accommodate my brains Xmas Wink

I blow dry that bit straight though. And it is unusually short at the moment, thanks to a moment of madness at a £3 barbers

It usually blends better.

I haven't straightened my hair in months because I am lazy and like it curly. Might be worth an experiment though.

ricketyrock · 09/12/2010 23:08

I didn't straighten my hair for years. I like it curly too but then one day I realised it was really long and I wanted grown up sophisticated hair. So I got out the GHDs (which I have always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with). I only do it sometimes though because I am lazy/it's damaging. People I don't know well always comment that my hair looks nice but my DP doesn't like it straight because it's not 'me' blah blah

ps at least it wasn't the moment of madness with a pair of nail scissors that I have been involved with

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 09/12/2010 23:10

So is it used as a conditioner? Or a treatment after conditioner say instead of a serum?

BitOfFun · 09/12/2010 23:15

DP prefers me curly for the same reason. They are so predictable Xmas Grin

Claire- a bit of both. I put some in while conditioning as usual, rinsed a bit, then a small blob more that I left in.

To be honest, I have overdone it slightly, but I'll rein it in a bit next time.

ladylush · 10/12/2010 13:52

BOF - like your budgetwise thinking.....might try Holland & Barratt tomorrow. Your dp is an awesome artist by the way Smile
