Any tips on what charity shops stock good quality cashmere, LTEC?

LetThemEatCake · 06/12/2010 21:54

are you in London pippi?

pippibluestocking · 06/12/2010 22:01

Yes - south east, any insider tips? Know Barnes is supposed to be good but bit far to go. Blackheath seems to be full of motheaten offerings!

LetThemEatCake · 06/12/2010 22:08

ooh, I'm SE too

Okay. Herne Hill is good, Dulwich can be good sometimes, yes Barnes, Clapham v.good, any Traid shop good (brixton & clapham both close by)

Marylebone High St obv very good but they know their stuff and obviously price accordingly so not so bargainous (but still worth it!)

also don't forget good old TKs (Lewisham and Clapham) - all the fun of the rummage, yet BNWT .....

hope that helps?

pippibluestocking · 06/12/2010 22:15

Thanks. Promise not to wipe out stocks Grin

am sure we'll come elbow to elbow in the scrum Wink

LetThemEatCake · 07/12/2010 07:19

pippi forgot to mention - the 'vintage' section at the back of Grace & Favour on North Cross rd in east dulwich is great for cashmere. they price it btwn 12-15£. Cash or cheque only. HTH

As others have said, it starts with good quallity, well fitting underwear. I always think it is better to invest in classic items and use accessories for colour and trends.

Get yourself
A good pair of jeans in a cut that suits your figure
A cashmere polo neck and a cashmere cardi (I have both from M&S and they are snuggly without costing £££)
tunic / dress (knitted or jersey)
Long sleeve Ts
Quality knee high leather boots in tan or black
Single breasted coat with a good wool content
Fine wool scarves

Then you can mix and match and always look well dressed Grin

Can anyone suggest where to look for decent cashmere scarves?
Would really like to get one made in Scotland/Ireland rather than China but can't find anything I like in Brora/Pure.
Thanks!

SickOnMyShoulder · 07/12/2010 18:32

marks and spencer| althouh probably make in china?

Pannacotta · 07/12/2010 18:36

Thanks but yes all made in China, was also looking for a more shawl type scarf and they dont have any.
Not fussy, me!

LetThemEatCake · 07/12/2010 18:37

[[http://www.lilyandlionel.com/search.php Lily and Lionel}}? I don't have any but know of other MNers who do and love

LetThemEatCake · 07/12/2010 18:38

bollocks here

sartoriallychallenged · 07/12/2010 20:01

Thanks - there definitely seems to be a consensus here!

Jeans - straightforward. I know what I'm doing here.

Am investigating cashmere.

Tunic/dress - more info please on how to wear in winter!

Long-sleeved Ts - have tons, but all a bit old, time to re-stock, obviously.

On the lookout for boots, coat and scarf :)

Also - what would be your outfit of choice if you were going out to dinner with friends? I'm often happy with skinny jeans, but don't have any interesting enough tops.

Nice site LTeC, thanks.
Sorry for slight hijack OP, you are not alone in struggling to dress yourself Grin

sartoriallychallenged · 07/12/2010 22:18

Be my guest, Pannacotta, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I did actually use to know what clothes to buy but haven't had time or money for even a fashion magazine for about 6 years, bit tragic, isn't it?!

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 07/12/2010 22:20

I had the same thought today when I had a couple of hours free to do some shopping and I had no idea where to look or what to buy!

Perhaps a personal shopper is an idea for you sartorially, (though for me the thought of trying on clothes with a stranger is quite off putting!)

Meggles76 · 08/12/2010 12:31

Tunic/ dresses - look good with opaques or woolly tights in winter. During the day, I tend to layer with long sleeves Ts under or go for a long cardigan over the top. I wear with chunky riding boots.

For an evening out I wear with opaques and heals and a big necklace.

If I am wearing skinny jeans out - I tend to wear with a silk blouse top. I have some with a bow tie and others that are plain. They dress up jeans nicely.
