Leggings - where do you buy yours?

After dipping my toe into the legging water with some from Primark, I found that after one wash they split from fanjo to perineum. Where do you find good leggings? I was looking at American Apparel, but a) the company makes me feel icky b) they are £50 for three pairs. Topshop were good, but now they only do their Tall leggings in black, and I want dark blue, greens, and more interesting colours.

M&S have a reasonable leggings bar
these are in the post, i have high hopes!

Next.

I have those leggings twoboots. They are very warm. They are more like footless tights as they are ribbed but are quite thick. A good buy!

Grumpla · 03/12/2010 18:44

New Look does tall leggings but not all the time and not in all the colours.

They are pretty good quality though, have had mine for ages. Had maternity ones from there too which I wore to death and didn't go too baggy / grey.

Last time I went into M&S they told me "we don't sell leggings, ma'am" as though I had asked for a boobless crotchless bodystocking. If anyone wants one of them, by the way, they are available on Norwich Market as I found out when I ran my pram into the rack and knocked several (pairs? sets?) to the floor. Xmas Blush

boobless and crotchless Grin
leggings are now officially middle class, so its the law that M&S must have an area devoted to them.

luckykitty · 03/12/2010 19:20

sainsburys. not very glamorous I know but really good quality and cheap! and not that crap cheap over-stretchy material either :)

gibba8 · 03/12/2010 20:27

I am 6 foot and M&S leggings fit me really well, great quality and were only £8.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/12/2010 20:33

River Island

they have some wool-mix leggings in that are fab

sooo warm and don't go too baggy

hold your tummy in a treat too (for under knitted dresses) with a wide waistband

I hate those thin waistbands that create a belly roll when you haven't even got one !

santascoming2town · 03/12/2010 20:50

My very fashionable sil swears by H&M for leggings. They have a few different colours in store but cant see them online.

Meggles76 · 03/12/2010 20:57

I am 5ft and go to Next and M&S as they both do a choice of lengths. Both have washed well and no unsightly splits

SantasENormaSnob · 03/12/2010 21:44

AF, do the ri ones wash okay?

My last few items from there have been really poor quality.

Sassybeast · 03/12/2010 21:47

Wallis - a bit pricey but worth it.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/12/2010 21:47

yes, they are fairly pricy though

£21 for a pair of leggings !

mippy · 05/12/2010 12:13

I've only bought one thing from River Island in ten years - actually, I did buy a size 14 jumper which turned out to be really a size 12. They're seen as really upmarket where I grew up but it's one of those shops I don't really go into these days.

Mothercare, currently. I can't recommend them. Grin

LadyViper · 05/12/2010 18:05

My best pair are from warehouse, they are the first pair i ever bought and are still going strong. They are well worth the price.

vicbar · 05/12/2010 18:10

Primark slimming control leggings. They are really thick, never the see through bare arsed look come in a few colours (black, grey, purple and denim) and cost £5.
I have ahad people stop me and ask where I got them. They are usually in the undies section.
Ive bought, next, River Island and Warehouse and they didnt last or were seethrough.

Hulababy · 05/12/2010 18:30

I have pairs from White Stuff, M&S and Jane Norman (in Debenhams) - have to say that the latter were the cheapest (£12) and the ones that keep their shape better, don't go loose when wearing at all and wash best.
