Was going to go for a nice navy pair but over on Chat the thread says that Hunter's are a big MN no-no!

So who does nice warm comfy wellies?

LOL tracey!

5GoldenFimbos · 02/12/2010 14:02

Could someone point me towards said thread.

For anyone out there who has fat calves then I can recommend Decathlon Inverness. They are shorter than a normal welly.

earwicga · 02/12/2010 14:04

I love my Hunters. No idea what a 'chav' is tbh, but if it is somebody wearing their BIL's old wooly cardy then that is me :) Tbh, I am a joskin, but without the tractor. Will have to work on that in the new year.

Tolalola · 02/12/2010 14:12

Hunters are completely fine. I wear them all the time in the UK for muddy walks, although I think I prefer green to navy.

In really cold weather or when I might have to go from outside to in lots of times, I wear toasty-warm neoprene lined Le Chameaus. The zips make them super easy to jump in and out af all day.

I love my navy Hunters, the best thing for walking the dogs in dead of winter. And I am most definitely not a chav. Grin

HotchpotchHoney · 02/12/2010 17:31

According to mumsnet I must be a chav as I have most of the items that are deemed chavvy. Oh well what can I say, I love my hunters (black), pandora bracket, sweetie bracelet etc oh and have a lovely pair of leopardskin heels!
As has been said if you're wearing wellies for muddy walks etc then they are not chavvy it's if they are immaculate and worn in the wrong context.

mrsruffallo · 02/12/2010 17:36

W. I don't care if some knob thinks we are chavvy becuase of our welly choice.
I often think 'I wish I could have a good look at you' when people announce that certain brands are 'chavvy'

fitflopqueen · 02/12/2010 19:17

Rathaer depends on what you need wellies for, I have Hunters and worn the green ones since young teen when growing up on farm. Made chasing rebellious sheep and cows so much easier as they were the only ones you could run in without losing them in mud.

saorachd · 02/12/2010 19:22

My only gripe about Hunters is that they don't last very long. The rubber tends to perish around the ankle and the top of the foot part.
What is the top of the foot part called anyway?

Simbacatlives · 02/12/2010 19:27

My hunters are 16 years old. Last pair lasted longer. What are you doing in them?

Sherbert37 · 02/12/2010 19:28

Saorachd - I am also disappointed my Hunters have split, across the top of foot on both wellies. I have had them for a year and worn them up to three times a day, but I did expect them to last longer.

TheNextMrsDepp · 02/12/2010 20:10

"All the really posh people I know, when actually in the countryside, seem to wear Dunlops from the local garden centre...."

Ha! I always knew I was posh! My faithful green Dunlops are into their fifteenth year and cost less than a pair of socks.

ShanahansRevenge · 02/12/2010 20:17

Don't people realise that it's "chavvy" to actually CARE!?

Fibonacci · 02/12/2010 20:25

I wear Muck boots - really warm.

wildfig · 02/12/2010 21:29

i've got green Le Chameau wellies, worn with pair of red wool shooting socks tucked over the top, which makes them properly posh warm.

GColdtimer · 02/12/2010 21:33

Oh ffs. They are wellies.

hephaestus · 03/12/2010 13:12

The old made-in-Scotland Hunters were fantastic, lasted for decades. New made-in-China Hunters fall apart if they see a scrap of dirt. I will never buy another pair, tired of having wet feet...

Aigle or Le Chameau if you are walking long distances and want warm feet, Hunters for posing on dry land only. Muck Boots a cheap warm alternative.

berri · 03/12/2010 13:12

Wellies are wellies, shoes are shoes, make up is make up....surely this forum is about choosing between them all - isn't that the point?!

OP posts:
berri · 03/12/2010 13:24

Haven't heard of Muck - will google....

SpotSplatterSplash · 03/12/2010 15:42

Chav wellies is the funniest thing I have ever read on MN.

rusmum · 06/02/2011 16:34

i am sellimg my hunter wellies if you are still looking- cant get a good fit ! they are lush though

BeeBox · 06/02/2011 16:39

Idon't presonally use the word 'chavvy' (to me it says 'low class/ignorant., but there you go...different folks etc). But how on earth are Hunter wellies 'chavvy'? They are wellington boots, FGS.

Anyone who wants the latest, cutting edge couture wellies is an epic wank head.

BeeBox · 06/02/2011 16:40

'I simply must have those new £100 Le Ponce wellies' etc.

Wank head.
