winter waterproof coat and walking shoes help

hi i want to get my dp (female) a winter waterproof knee length coat and walking shoes/boots for her birthday in february. we live in the country and have dogs so needs to be hardy but also stylish. dp is also size 18/20.

ideas pleeeese!

Patagonia do some great winter jackets here. (I've just ordered the 'down with it' parka for £170. It should be arriving soon.)

My other options were the merrell isadore or the North Face Arctic Parka (alhtough the NF is v. difficult to get hold of.) Lands End also make a Chevron down coat that's a bit cheaper. There's a thread on here about that. I think the only thing about down coats is they can add a lot of bulk. Lots of people on here swear by the merrell wakefield. There's a very long thread on here about it.

Look at www.purekit.com for some ideas about good waterproof boots. Merrell and North Face are good. I've just ordered the North Face Janey. I've got a thread about winter boots down page (title something like 'tell me what you think of these winter boots') Sorry, in a bit of a rush as looking after two bored DD's. Landsend have lots of coats/shoes.

i've looked at the wakefield and love it but apparently not v warm.

tracy is drizabone warm?

I think it is aimed at being super dry - rather than cosy warm. It's not padded - but would keep the wind out big time. I think prob would need layers underneath it. Maybe more for wet and windy weather than cold and snowy iykwim.

Hi Lots33. I am curvy-big boobs(blush),and have this. Very warm and practical. Been caught out in a few heavy showers and stayed dry. Lining zips out so will do for spring/summer as light coat too.
I am a 14/16,bought the 16 but the 14 would have done.Sizing is generous but she may want to wear layers underneath?
I bought these.They are very comfy and practical. Wearing with ski socks and toes lovely and warm.They would be ok for a walk,not sure if you mean walking in the mountains/countryside.
