Skincare Advice

This is my first post in S&B - mainly because I don't have either .

I'm looking for some skincare advice. I am in my early 30's but have oily, spot prone skin. I'm currently using Vichy for blemish prone skin but I'm finding it quite drying - I think it is too harsh for my skin.

Can anyone recommend anything (cleanser, toner and moisturiser) that keeps spots and shine at bay but doesn't dry your skin out?

I have a similar skin type to you so can empathise. Even with oily skin, you do not actually need a harsh cleanser - a gentle one removed with a flannel is actually better. You cannot make your skin less oily by using harsh irritating cleansers on it, unless they contain benzoyl peroxide.

Good cleansers are: Olay foaming facial wash for sensitive skin, and Clean and Clear foaming facial cleanser for sens skin. Avoid anything with sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate as it is too drying even for oily skin (I discovered this the hard way with a particular Neutrogena facewash).

Any basic toner without alcohol is fine, also avoid stongly fragranced ones esp menthol/ citrus/ lavender.

I have recently started using Biore cleansing cloths for blemish prone skin after washing my face - they have 2% salicylic acid which is meant to help blackheads and spots but I'm only 4 days in so too early to tell you if they work!

Bear in mind you may not actually need a moisturiser - you might be able to just use a primer type product eg Clinique Turnaround concentrate or No 7 Protect and Perfect. The silicone in primers is good at sealing in moisture and might be better than adding more oil. Obviously you will want a sunscreen of some sort during the day. I actually don't use moisturiser in the morning but use Estee Lauder Idealist and then Clinique Oil-free City Block Face Protector SPF25 on top (which does contain other things that are good for skin as well as SPF).

Clinique city block is wonderful stuff!

In fact I'm a clinique enthusiast, I use their cleanse tone and moisturisers and they are the best thing I've tried.

Have you looked on the Oil Cleansing threads?

Clinique are generally very good, except for their Dramatically Different Moisturiser which is very ordinary.

PD I uSed to use clinique but stopped when I stopped noticing any difference in my skin. I chop and change quite a lot desperately trying to find something that makes a difference.

if you buy from QVC you can try things out for a couple of weeks and send back for a refund if you don't like them.
