How would you dress 'smart casual' for evening event?

What the title says. In the past, this particular event has been black tie, but the recession is scaling it down this year.

I guess men will wear lounge suits, but any suggestions for what I should wear?

Shift dress maybe?

Anyone???

I'd say jeans, heels and nice top.

Tunic shape shift dress, opaques and shoe boots or longer boots.
Or a wrap dress and long boots, and statement necklace or cuff.
