I really shouldn't be allowed to do it on my own!!

I turned 40 in September, love clothes, but just don't seem to be able to get coats "right". I've got several I've bought, one my sister has given (a South one) and one my mother has recently given me for myself or to ebay ( a lovely grey funnel neck House of Fraser one), but none of them are "the one".

So.....I'm going to ebay them all to raise funds (they're all decent brands & condition) and get myself a decent one. I want something that I can wear with smartish work clothes and also with casual/jeans/leggings clothes. I need to be able to wear it with black and brown, and am happy to buy a cheaper one first to see if it suits.

I'm sorry, I know it's a lot to ask Confused!!

What's your body shape like and how tall are you? Not all coats suit e.g. short busty women?
Are you the more adventurous type or have a more classic elegant style?

harassedinherTINSELpants · 25/11/2010 14:52

I'm 5' 4", size 14-16 and a pear shaped (unfortunately!).

I'm quite adventurous with my clothes, elegant is not a word I'd use to describe myself....... I like things a little bit different and have very eclectic tastes. I wear lots of black and browns, but also colours.

This is nice.

harassedinherTINSELpants · 25/11/2010 15:49

That's lovely tethersend!! Do you think the style would last for more than just one winter.

My first thought was that it's a very grown up coat.....when am I going to get it into my head that I am grownup!!

I think it will- it's not exactly timeless, but it's not faddy either. Might be worth keeping an eye on in case they knock some money off... Or just get it Grin

notinmypocket · 25/11/2010 16:46

I hope some of them are a bit 'different' enough from the standard coat styles and pear shape fitting.

different but still smart

skirted

bit of a twist in the back

special shoulders

last one

do you want it to last
as in classic style?
if so jaegar have lovely ones atm

Rindercella · 25/11/2010 18:09

notinmypocket just love that last one. What a beautiful coat. Have been googling and it appears to be out of stock though Sad

harassedinherTINSELpants · 25/11/2010 19:51

I love the last one too!!

Thank you so much for the suggestions, none of them are anything I would have picked out myself, but I like all of them Grin. It's so nice to have some suggestions as I really don't know where to start!

So, I'm going to go and have a good try on at the weekend I think and then go from there.

Thanks!!

I have found the Karen Millen coat much reduced!!

www.karenmillendiscount.com/karen-millen-cute-1940s-coat-brown-p-483.html

Unfortunately not in my size Sad.

So.....taking our finances at the moment in account I've found these:

my favourite but the red is sold out, is camel too "this season"?

love the neck and the colour

I like it, but not 100% on the colour

Whispers......

this my new favourite

OP posts:
notinmypocket · 26/11/2010 16:01

Wanted or not, here's my opinion

I like the purple Next one the most.
I like the first one too and think camel although 'in' this season is quite a timeless colour for a coat.

On your new favourite, it's lovely but do you think a pear shape will get away with the bits that stand out at the sides? Might make you look more bottom heavy than you are?
It's just a wild guess, have no experiences of life as a pear shape Smile

"On your new favourite, it's lovely but do you think a pear shape will get away with the bits that stand out at the sides? Might make you look more bottom heavy than you are? "

Bugger - didn't think of that! This is why I need help lol.

So sorry to hijack your thread, I am on a similar quest and love that Karen Millen coat...have you ever used that website? I can't work out if it is very dodgy or not!
Good luck coat hunting :)

harassedinherTINSELpants · 26/11/2010 21:04

No I haven't, I just google the coat and saw it was a brilliant price!

I'm still undecided!
