What kind of hairstyling device do I need? Not straighteners.

I have wavy/curly hair and it is at its best on days when I wash it and leave it to dry naturally. The curls dry into place and stay quite defined.

Some days I prefer not to wash my hair and generally just blow dry my fringe a bit and spritz the back with a bit of water to bring up the curls, as otherwise it can be a bit frizzy/nothingy.

However, as an alternative, is there a tool that i could use to smooth out some sections into waves/flicks? I am thinking of a hot brush or some kind of fat tong.

Straighteners do not work for me, as because my hair is layered the ends then tend to look very thin and ragged.

If you use a hot brush or tong please give me some recommendations.
