How to keep feet very, very warm.

I realise this is neither a style nor beauty question but please, some advice on how to keep feet warm outdoors.

I suffer especially when standing watching my son play football.

Any tried and tested socks, insoles or the like please?

sheepskin lined anything- insoles, boots etc

trinni · 22/11/2010 22:53

I was thinking something warm inside my wellies?

I have some romika snowboots that are beautifully toasty.

I have just taken delivery of some sheepskin insoles from celtic sheepskin. I think they would be very cozy - if I could actually get them to fit inside my boots Hmm
I think if going down the sheepskin insoles route your bots need to be a size bigger than you usually take to accomodate!

Am obsessed with keeping my feet warm so totally feeling your pain. Anyway last winter I bought some sheepskin inner soles to put in my wellies. Can't remember the name of the company but just google. They keep my tootsies properly toasty. Other than them, I have to say that absolutely nothing, nothing, nothing, keeps feet warmer than Ugg boots.

trinni · 22/11/2010 23:21

Thanks Joso. Oh the misery of cold feet!

My wellies are very roomy so insoles or warm sock are the answer I think.

I stand for endless hours in some very wet and muddy football fields so, Uggs are out of the question!

Were the sheepskin insoles you bought genuine sheepskin?

Outdoor shop - woolly socks, preferably an inner thermal pair and a thick woolly outer pair.

here

Also alpaca is meant to be a very warm fibre as here

trinni · 22/11/2010 23:24

eshermummy, have just googled Celtic Sheepskin these look to be just the thing, and not too expensive either, thanks!

Alpaca fibre self-cleans - marvellous!

greenlotus, you know the Heat Holders socks are on ebay for just under £4 and the delivery charge is minimal too, thanks.

I'm looking forward to very warm feet.

once you have filled your boots up as much as you can with warm socks, sheepskin insoles etc, try legwarmers on top - I find that having extra layers on my lower legs helps keep my feet warm too

get chunky knitted ones, the ones from Hush are great as they are really long, but there are loads on the high street too

mermaidgirl · 23/11/2010 11:40

these would be the perfect solution!

woopsidaisy · 23/11/2010 12:10

trinni I feel your pain! I also have to spend HOURS at the side of football/rugby pitches. And this year I was determined not to suffer. I got a good warm coat, and have nicked my DH's hiking socks. Not sure what exactly they are,but he got them in that Cotswold shop.My toes have been snuggly warm everyday. Only thing is they are way too big,so he is getting me some for Christmas-oh the romance!Grin

ChippedChinaTeacup · 23/11/2010 12:14

my dp bought me some socks in sports direct last week.. they're amazing! they have the rubber feet like totes ones but the inside is woven in a special way.. I wore them inside boots and was so hot I had to take my coat off.. the best socks I ever had - and I feel the cold terribly.

I think they were about £8

Will try and find the link to them, it's on a different machine tho.

olderandwider · 23/11/2010 13:43

Wearing boots too tight makes tootsies cold. There should be a wriggling space around your toes after the addition of any sheepskin liners/wooly socks etc. Having your feet jammed against the uppers of your boots is a recipe for cold feet. I think it's to do with the space between sock and boot being insulating and trapping warm air.

olderandwider · 23/11/2010 13:44

wooly? woolly!

snice · 23/11/2010 13:46

we use fleece welly liners

PlanetEarth · 23/11/2010 18:09

Forget wellies, use something with neoprene. I use these for horse riding, and was riding last year in -5C with these and just normal ankle socks, and had toasty feet. Not cheap, and maybe a bit countrified for watching the footie, but there are different styles as well.

hettie · 23/11/2010 20:10

are you prepared to pay ££? Because the best warm boots in the world are in the world are made by sorrel a canadian company....

ChippedChinaTeacup · 24/11/2010 08:54

Just came back to say the socks I have are heat holders but someone beat me to it :o

they are the warmest socks I've ever had and I feel the cold terribly!

BarbiesBeaver · 24/11/2010 12:38

Merino socks, and Ugg boots. I've got Reynauld's so my feet and hands are very vulnerable to the cold and I've not regretted buying my Kensington Uggs a couple of years ago.

slug · 24/11/2010 13:13

possum down socks are the way to go. They are made with a mix of merion wool and possum fur. Possums are a noxious animal in NZ, they destroy the forests and the native birds, so you can wear the socks with the knowledge that not only are your feet toasty and warm, but you are saving the unique NZ wildlife at the same time Wink

If you live in London you can buy them at kiwifruits
